Job description

Are you an experienced survey professional who enjoys leading field crews, solving complex challenges, and delivering high-quality work? Join our 100% employee-owned team at Ruekert & Mielke, Inc. as a Survey Crew Chief.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to lead survey field operations for a variety of land development, municipal, transportation, and infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for collecting accurate field data, ensuring quality standards are met, and coordinating with project managers, surveyors, engineers, and field support staff. Goals & Responsibilities

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform and coordinate boundary, topographic, ALTA, control, utility, and construction surveys alongside a Survey Technician
  • Operate and oversee the use of GPS equipment, robotic total stations, data collectors, and other survey instruments
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of all field measurements and survey data
  • Perform construction staking and layout for municipal, transportation, and site development projects
  • Establish and maintain survey control networks
  • Maintain detailed field notes and documentation
  • Coordinate daily field activities with project managers, professional land surveyors, engineers, clients, and contractors
  • Identify and resolve field issues while ensuring project schedules and budgets are maintained
  • Assist with data transfer, field-to-finish workflows, and quality control procedures
  • Follow and promote safety protocols and company standards while working in the field
  • Maintain and inspect survey equipment and vehicles to ensure proper operation
  • Support the development of survey technicians through collaboration and knowledge sharing


Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following education, experience, and abilities:

  • Associate degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of land surveying experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Trimble GPS equipment, robotic total stations, data collectors, and related survey technology
  • Strong understanding of surveying principles, field procedures, and Wisconsin surveying practices
  • Experience with Civil 3D, CAD software, and survey data processing workflows preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, plats, legal descriptions, and survey documents
  • Strong mathematical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites
  • Commitment to safety, accuracy, and quality workmanship
