Job description

Leapros Skilled Trades is actively hiring Solar & ESS Field Technician in Oak Brook, IL. The Solar & ESS Field Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and inspection of commercial and utility-scale solar arrays and battery energy storage systems throughout Illinois. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background in electrical systems and is proficient in troubleshooting, routine preventive maintenance, and detailed technical reporting to ensure optimal plant performance and safety.

Job Type: Permanent

Annual Salary: $62,400 to $104,000 Annually BOE

Licenses/Certifications Required:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • NABCEP
  • OSHA 30

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain commercial, industrial, and utility solar power and Energy Storage Systems (ESS) in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot electrical components using digital multi-meters, meggers, amp clamps, and other specialized diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical inspections including progress, mc, sc, and routine preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct handheld infrared thermography and sUAS drone inspections to identify potential equipment failures or inefficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of O&M activities, including maintenance logs, service orders, work orders, and inventory records.
  • Perform material takeoffs for the replacement of failed or damaged equipment and manage site inventory.
  • Monitor site operations and performance using various SCADA systems and network communication tools.
  • Ensure all site activities comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), safety standards, and professional best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of technical experience in electrical fields or equivalent technical education.
  • At least 2 years of experience specifically maintaining commercial or utility-scale solar arrays.
  • Strong understanding of solar photovoltaic (PV), energy storage systems, and microgrid applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical single-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Experience with DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network monitoring communications.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and standard industry practices.
  • Ability to work an on-call schedule and travel up to 30% of the time, including occasional overnights.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move and manipulate equipment weighing up to 100 pounds (45 kg).
