They analyze aerial imagery and sensor data to extract meaningful insights that support decision-making in industries such as agriculture, construction, surveying, and environmental monitoring. Their work involves using specialized software to process geospatial data, generate maps, and create reports. Drone Data Analysts often collaborate with pilots, engineers, and project managers to deliver actionable results from drone missions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a drone data analyst?

To thrive as a Drone Data Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in data interpretation, and a background in GIS, remote sensing, or a related field. Familiarity with drone operation, photogrammetry software, and data processing tools such as Pix4D, ArcGIS, or QGIS is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help distinguish successful analysts in this position. These skills are important because they ensure accurate data collection, insightful analysis, and actionable reporting that drive informed decision-making across industries.

How do drone data analysts typically collaborate with field teams and other departments?

Drone Data Analysts often work closely with field operators who collect aerial data, as well as with project managers, GIS specialists, and engineers who use the analyzed results. Effective communication is essential, as analysts must translate raw drone data into actionable insights tailored to each team's needs. This collaboration ensures that data collection methods are aligned with project goals and that findings are clearly presented for decision-making. Regular meetings and shared digital platforms are commonly used to streamline this cross-functional teamwork.

Job Description:
Test Analyst (Network/Cyber)
Location: Alexandria, Virginia (Onsite)
Role Overview
A leading government contractor is seeking a Test Analyst to support a mission-focused federal program operating at the intersection of national security, intelligence, and emerging technology. This role is central to a fast-moving, adaptable task force responding to evolving drone threats. The position will involve collecting, correlating, analyzing, and visualizing network, cyber, and operational test data to assess the performance, interoperability, and security posture of Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) technologies. This is an analyst-heavy role focused on developing policy, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), and documenting lessons learned.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, aggregate, and analyze network, cyber, RF, and operational test data from C-UAS technologies, sensors, and command and control systems.
  • Utilize data integration and analytics platforms like Maven Smart System (MSS) and Palantir, along with Power BI and Python, to conduct network analysis and security assessments.
  • Analyze network traffic, packet captures, system logs, and telemetry to identify trends, vulnerabilities, and operational impacts.
  • Develop dashboards, data visualizations, and technical reports to communicate network performance, operational effectiveness, and mission impacts to leadership.
  • Leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to accelerate log analysis, anomaly detection, and threat identification.
  • Analyze security events, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing results to identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with engineering, cyber, and operational teams to develop comprehensive test assessments and technical recommendations.
  • Support test planning by defining data collection requirements, instrumentation needs, and analytical methodologies for network and cyber evaluations.
  • Produce technical documentation, after-action reviews, and operational assessments to support acquisition decisions and capability development.
  • Focus on doctrine, policy, analysis, and coordination to generate reports and other products for an operational mission.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
  • BA/BS with 4+ years of relevant experience; AA/AS with 8+ years; or a High School diploma/GED with 10+ years.
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing network performance, cybersecurity events, system logs, or operational test data.
  • Experience with enterprise data integration and analytics platforms such as Maven Smart System (MSS) or Palantir.
  • Experience developing dashboards and interactive visualizations using Power BI or similar business intelligence tools.
  • Experience analyzing packet captures, firewall logs, endpoint telemetry, or security information and event management (SIEM) data.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in dynamic mission environments.
  • Background in an operational context, familiar with doctrine or high-level coordination.

Technical Skills:
  • Working knowledge of Python for data analysis, scripting, and automation.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, network protocols, and security principles.
  • Strong proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for developing technical documentation and reports.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, or Homeland Security organizations.
  • Prior military experience, particularly with a background in base defense, counter-UAS, surface warfare, aviation, or maritime defense.
  • Familiarity with C-UAS command and control networks, tactical communications, and network-enabled sensor architectures.
  • Experience supporting developmental test and evaluation (DT&E) or operational test and evaluation (OT&E).
  • Knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST RMF or Zero Trust Architecture.
  • Experience with analysis tools like Wireshark, Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, or the Elastic Stack.
  • Experience with UAS platforms that involves building, programming, or troubleshooting drone systems.
