What is a driving lawyer?

A driving lawyer, also known as a traffic or motoring offense lawyer, is a legal professional who specializes in representing clients charged with driving-related offenses. These may include speeding, DUI/DWI, reckless driving, license suspensions, and other traffic violations. Driving lawyers provide legal advice, represent clients in court, negotiate with prosecutors, and work to minimize penalties or have charges dismissed. Their expertise ensures that clients understand their rights and options throughout the legal process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a driving lawyer?

To thrive as a Driving Lawyer, you need a solid understanding of traffic law, criminal defense procedures, and a law degree with state bar admission. Familiarity with legal research databases, case management software, and court filing systems is typically required. Strong negotiation, analytical thinking, and client communication skills help differentiate outstanding practitioners in this role. These skills ensure effective legal representation, successful case outcomes, and client trust in complex driving-related legal matters.

What are some of the most common challenges a driving lawyer faces when handling DUI or traffic violation cases?

Driving Lawyers often encounter challenges such as navigating complex and frequently changing traffic laws, assessing the reliability of evidence like breathalyzer results, and negotiating with prosecutors. They must also manage tight court deadlines and maintain clear communication with clients who may be unfamiliar with legal proceedings. Success in this role requires staying updated on legal precedents and building strong relationships with local courts and law enforcement.

Job description

Experienced Family Law Attorney

Family law is one of the most challenging and meaningful areas of legal practice. It requires strong courtroom advocacy, sound judgment, and the ability to guide clients through deeply personal disputes involving their children, finances, and future.

  • Are you an experienced family law litigator who understands that this work requires both legal skill and emotional intelligence?
  • Are you an attorney who enjoys the close-knit culture of a small firm but has the confidence and litigation skills to go head-to-head with larger firms and excel in the courtroom?
  • Are you someone who can walk into a courtroom prepared, confident, and ready to advocate for your client while maintaining professionalism with opposing counsel and the court?
  • Do you care about the people behind the cases and take pride in helping clients navigate some of the most difficult transitions of their lives?
  •  Do you have a proven track record of successfully handling family law cases through settlement or trial?

If these questions resonate with who you are, we invite you to consider joining our team. The culture we are building at Tymus Beverly, PLLC, may be the right firm for you!

Tymus Beverly, PLLC is an award-winning, boutique law firm with one focus: family law.  Our firm is seeking an experienced Family Law Attorney, who is committed to practicing family law long-term and who values both the legal and human aspects of this work. Our work is guided by a set of core values that shape how we serve our clients and how we work with each other. If you “think” you "might" want to do family law, this is not the opportunity for you.  We know this is what we want to do. We understand that success in family law requires more than technical knowledge—it requires empathy, professionalism, and the ability to provide steady leadership to clients during emotionally charged situations.

As part of our team, you will participate in the growth of our family law practice – with offices in Raleigh and Durham – and actively expanding our footprint in the Triangle and surrounding communities. Our firm operates as a true team—everyone’s voice matters in shaping firm strategy, setting goals, and driving growth, yours will too. We hold regular strategic meetings where attorneys and staff collaborate, share ideas, and contribute to the direction of the firm. The ideal candidate thrives in this environment, enjoys contributing to both firm-level strategy and client work, and is excited by the opportunity to help move a growing practice forward.

The attorney who will succeed in this role:

  • Is a strong courtroom advocate who enjoys litigation
  • Is confident managing a full caseload of family law matters
  • Understands the emotional complexity of family law and family law clients
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with clients
  • Takes pride in preparation and strategic case development
  • Values professionalism, integrity, and reputation
  • Has an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Is eager to participate in driving firm-growth and firm-wide business development activities

Attorneys with an existing referral network or book of business are encouraged to apply, though it is not required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a full caseload of family law matters from intake through resolution
  • Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery, settlement agreements, and court orders
  • Conduct legal research and develop case strategies
  • Advise clients regarding their legal rights, options, and potential outcomes
  • Participate in mediations and settlement negotiations
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and trial
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining attention to detail
  • Excellent client communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to ensure efficient case management
  • Maintain regular client communication and provide case updates
  • Ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedural rules

Cases Typically Handled:

  • Divorce and separation
  • Child custody
  • Child support
  • Post-separation support and Alimony
  • Equitable distribution
  • Separation Agreements
  • Premarital Agreements
  • Domestic violence protective orders
  • Post-separation modifications and enforcement actions
  • Family law appeals

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active license in good standing with the North Carolina State Bar
  • Experience in the area of family law
  • Courtroom and hearing/trial experience
  • Strong legal writing and advocacy skills
  • Experience negotiating settlements and participating in mediation
  • Strong interpersonal and client communication skills
  • Working knowledge of local rules in Durham, Wake, and surrounding counties

We Offer:

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Performance-based bonuses
  • Health insurance reimbursement and benefits package
  • Firm 401(k) Plan with employer-paid contribution
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Established systems and professional development
  • A collaborative team environment that values hard work, professionalism, and fun!
