Job description

PURPOSE:   #IND

Through a combination of classroom lessons, video tutorials, in-car practice, and out of class learning, prepare students to become safe, effective drivers. Instructor teaches students how to operate vehicles so that they can get their driver's permits and licenses according to Pennsylvania State Law.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains accurate and complete daily case notes on every student for each session.
  • Advises students on the forms that are required in order to obtain their permit.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Monitor students performance to make suggestions for improvement and to ensure that they satisfy course standards, training requirements, and objectives.
  • Introduce students to vehicles' instrument panels and controls and teach them correct driving posture.
  • Instruct students on defensive driving methods, techniques for driving in emergencies, motor vehicle and insurance regulations, and basic mechanics and proper vehicle maintenance.
  • Teach the meaning of signs and road markings, safe driving techniques, good driving attitudes, and everything they need to know to obtain a learner permit and pass a driver's license examination.
  • Observe students and instruct on safely operating automobiles in a variety of locations and types of roads under varying traffic conditions while observing proper speed limit.
  • Instruct students on how to turn left or right, negotiate busy intersections, parallel park, follow directions provided by road signs, safely change lanes, and maintain safe distances from other vehicles.
  • Administer practice written exams prior to actual test at Department of Motor Vehicles testing site.

RELATIONS:

  • Receives direct supervision from the Vice President of Mission Services and the Senior Employment Specialist(s).
  • Provides direct supervision for participants in a training situation.

Benefits after 90 days include:  agency paid life insurance and vision insurance, vacation, sick, holidays, and eligible to participate in group health and dental programs with biweekly co-pay. EOE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be twenty-one years of age. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be a Certified Drivers Instructor by the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Report, Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Criminal Record Clearance, FBI Criminal Background and Finger Printing Clearance.
  • Must pass physical/mental fitness exam. Must pass character reference check.
  • Experience working directly with individuals with disabilities/disadvantages preferred.
  • Must have strong leadership skills, be a motivator and be able to manage time well.
