Sr. Accountant - Intercompany
The Opportunity
This position is located at our Sandy Springs headquarters and is a hybrid position with a combination of in office and remote. We are seeking a Sr. Accountant to join our Global Intercompany Accounting team. This role reports to the Mgr. Intercompany Accounting and will work closely with Corporate Accounting, Tax, Division Accounting staff, as well as other Corporate Accounting departments. While majority of the job responsibilities reside within the Intercompany Team, this role will also have cross functional responsibilities within the Corporate Benefits team creating a highly visible hybrid position and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Smurfit Westrock accounting policies, proper working of internal controls, and maintaining ledgers in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
The Intercompany team is responsible for the integrity of and materially attest to the Intercompany account balances in the financial statements. Processes used to accomplish this are, but not limited to, variance analysis, transactional and process research, account reconciliation and summarization utilizing tools such as MS Excel and Blackline. Accordingly, to successfully produce consistent and accurate results, deficiencies must proactively be identified, effectively communicated, and resolved as early in the process as possible.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock
  • Manage global non-trade inter-company transactions, including trading partner reconciliations, foreign balance remeasurement, and settlement activities
  • Execute and monitor settlement of intercompany BMG transactions; investigate and resolve variances
  • Perform monthly remeasurement of intercompany debt and foreign currency balances

  • Research and reconcile unapplied cash items; coordinate timely clearing with stakeholders
  • Maintain JDE intercompany HUB configuration and support process/system improvements

  • Prepare and certify monthly intercompany account reconciliations in BlackLine; identify, communicate, and resolve deficiencies early
  • Support internal and external audits by fulfilling documentation requests and explaining intercompany processes and balances
  • Partner with local and divisional controllers to streamline intercompany workflows, implement change, and ensure compliance with internal controls

  • Operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; prioritize and manage multiple deliverables
  • Crosstrain and collaborate with intercompany team members to ensure coverage, knowledge sharing, and consistent execution

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of accounting/finance experience
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills who exhibits a high degree of accuracy
  • Good time management skills; able to multi-task
  • Ability to work with large sets of Data
  • Project experience a plus
  • Must be self-directed, self-motivated, and self-starter
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • MS Office proficiency with intermediate to Advanced Excel Required
