Job Description

DCS Asset Maintenance is looking for a Highway Maintenance Technician/Guardrail Installer to perform various highway maintenance tasks and other related duties under close supervision. We are seeking a qualified individual who is eager to train in routine highway/roadway maintenance while adhering to all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Candidates at this level may need additional training or experience to fully master some or all of the job duties. Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to, repairing cable guardrails and guardrails, clearing drainage systems, removing downed trees, patching damaged or eroded pavements and shoulders, assisting with storm cleanup, repairing fences and signs, removing litter and debris, and responding to emergencies.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interpreting plans and schematics
  • Installing and setting up Highway Guardrail layouts
  • Handling and placing materials for guardrail installation
  • Loading and unloading materials on flat-bed trucks or trailers manually, digging holes, and using power tools
  • Operating the Post Pounder/Driver Truck
  • Operating equipment used for Highway Maintenance
  • Utilizing hand tools such as shovels, rakes, and brooms
  • Using power tools like chainsaws, pole saws, weed eaters, and backpack blowers
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Capability to lift moderately heavy objects
  • Physical endurance to bend, climb, stand, stoop, or walk for extended periods
  • Strong eye-hand coordination
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in work plans and schedules based on workload or seasonal requirements
  • Demonstrated high work ethic and commitment to the job
  • Any combination of training or experience that enables successful performance of essential roadway maintenance duties.
Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Class A or B CDL Required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license with at least 3 years of clean driving.
  • Must have demonstrated training and/or experience to perform essential job functions in maintenance of roadway activities.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older. 
  • Must have a construction background/ experience. 
  • Heavy labor experience a plus.
  • Must be available to work night shift from 7 PM to 5 AM.
