Job description

POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARYA professional Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) has a broad knowledge base of cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. An experienced oncology nurse navigator (ONN) offers individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers. Using the nursing process, an ONN provides educa­tion and resources to facilitate informed decision making and timely access to quality health and psychosocial care through­out all phases of the cancer continuum

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse licensed in Indiana.
  • Strong Oncology knowledge.
  • Oncology certification preferred – OCN, AOCN, AOCNS, AOCNP and CHPON.
  • Minimum two years’ experience caring for cancer patients
  • BLS certification.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent patient assessment skills including assessment of psychosocial issues.
  • Knowledge of self care resources and strategies
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Basic knowledge of insurance reimbursement systems, financial hardships, and payer coverage
  • Working knowledge of national, regional and community resources1
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with members of the healthcare team.
  • Experience with EMR and Microsoft Word Products.
  • Demonstrates a professional, positive, flexible demeanor.
  • Resourceful and adaptable to the changing healthcare climate.
