Job description

Position Summary: The Substitute Bus Associate works in the same capacity as the regular bus associate they are filling in for. The substitute associate assists the bus driver in maintaining the safety and supervision of students while being transported to and from school, field trips, and other district-approved activities. This position supports positive student behavior, ensures compliance with transportation and district policies and helps students with special needs when required.Hours: Varies; as needed Pay: $14.50 per hourQualifications: The qualified applicant must have a minimum of a high school diploma or grade level equivalent diploma (GED) and be able to pass a background check, 18 years of age or older Must be able to ability to relate well to children and maintain discipline in a fair and consistent mannerAbility and willingness to accept the responsibility of the positionEffective communication skillsAbility to take charge in emergency situationsMust be able to follow these duties and responsibilities just as the regular bus associate doesRequirements Included but Not Limited To:Involves riding in transport during morning and afternoon routes, guaranteed 2 hours in am and 2 hours in pm. Assist with the safe loading, transport and unloading of pupils at their stopsManaging pupils' physical needs during transitReport any behavioral, safety, or health concerns to the bus driver or transportation directorMust complete required district training which may include first aid, CPR or CPI training when requiredAssisting the driver to assure safety, welfare, and orderly conduct of passengers while on busProvide an appropriate role model for the studentsMaintain confidentiality on sensitive information regarding students or staffMaintain a high standard of student conduct at all times; during transit or at bus stopsAssisting the driver in keeping the bus clean and inspecting for damages and repairs dailyFollows all district, state and federal safety procedures and guidelinesReports to the Transportation Director or designeeOther duties as assignedWork Schedule:As needed, based on district transportation schedulesHours vary depending on route assignments the sub may be needed onPhysical Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking.The Fort Madison Community School District is an EEO/AA Employer
