Is being a driver helper hard?

Being a driver helper involves assisting with loading and unloading packages, often requiring physical effort and good communication skills. Overall, it can be manageable for those comfortable with physical tasks and teamwork.

What does a driver helper do?

As a driver helper, your duties are to help a delivery driver to load and unload their truck and accompany them on the route from the warehouse or shipping facility to customers. Your specific responsibilities also include helping to prepare and store equipment, such as hand trucks and dollies for moving large packages. Many driver helpers work for the large parcel delivery services, such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL, and they are often entry-level jobs where you get training before you can work as a delivery person yourself.

What is a driver helper?

Driver Helpers assist delivery drivers with loading, unloading, and delivering packages, especially during busy seasons. They typically ride along with the driver, help carry packages to customers' doors, and ensure deliveries are completed efficiently and safely. This role often requires physical stamina, good customer service skills, and the ability to work in various weather conditions. Driver Helpers do not drive the vehicle themselves but are essential in supporting timely deliveries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a driver helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Driver Helper, you need physical stamina, basic math skills, and the ability to safely handle and move packages, often requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Job description

Kitchen Helper/Transport Driver - Lunchtime Solutions
Location: On-site at Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools
Schedule: Monday-Friday 10:30am-12:30pm
Lunchtime Solutions is seeking a dependable, team-focused Kitchen Helper / Transport Driver to join our school food service program. In this dual-role position, you'll help keep meal service running smoothly by preparing and serving food, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, and safely delivering meals and supplies between school locations. It's an active, hands-on role that combines teamwork, customer service, and independent responsibility while making a real impact on students' day.
What You'll Do
  • Help prep and serve menu items, keep your station stocked, and follow serving-size and special-diet guidelines.
  • Deliver meals, food, and supplies to assigned school locations following established routes and schedules.
  • Safely load, unload, and transport food, supplies, and equipment between sites.
  • Follow simple recipes like fruit and veggie bars or baked goods while keeping kitchen, storage areas, and equipment clean and organized using FIFO.
  • Maintain food safety and compliance by following food-safety procedures, completing basic logs, and helping maintain a safe workspace.
  • Keep delivery vehicles clean, organized, and ready for daily use.
  • Communicate supply needs, delivery updates, vehicle concerns, and operational feedback to your team and supervisors.
  • Stock and serve menu items during meal service and help with prep lists and freezer pulls.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and jump in wherever needed to support teammates and ensure successful meal service.
What You Bring
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow recipes, measure ingredients, and convert quantities for large batches.
  • Dependability, integrity, and a commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Ability to safely drive, park, and maneuver delivery vehicles, including vans or box trucks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and move heavier items using carts and transport equipment.
  • Ability to perform frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, and other physical tasks throughout the day.
Why You'll Love Working With Us
  • Enjoy your evenings and weekends-our Monday-Friday daytime schedule means no late nights, no weekends, and no holidays spent in a kitchen.
  • Follow the school-year rhythm-work when school is in session and enjoy built-in breaks when students are out.
  • Plan for your future with our 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Enjoy work-life balance with paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Eat well-enjoy a free, delicious meal every shift.
  • Stay supported with a limited medical benefit plan available for those scheduled 5 hours or more each day.

At Lunchtime Solutions, our success comes from team members who:
  • Take pride in what you do
  • Focus on customer success
  • Be a person of integrity
  • Drive to improve
  • Do it with passion
  • Express gratitude

  • Embrace a healthy work-life balance

If these values resonate with you, we'd love to meet you!
