Familiarity with video management software, data storage systems, and sometimes certifications in safety or surveillance technology are typically required. Attention to detail, discretion, and strong observational skills are critical soft skills for monitoring and reporting effectively. These skills and qualities ensure accurate data capture, maintain privacy, and support safety and compliance in transportation operations.

What is a driver facing camera?

Driver facing cameras are in-vehicle cameras installed to monitor and record the behavior and activities of drivers while they are operating a vehicle. These cameras are often used by commercial fleets and transportation companies to improve safety, ensure compliance with regulations, and provide evidence in case of accidents or disputes. The footage from driver facing cameras can help identify distracted or risky driving behaviors and is used for driver coaching and training. Privacy concerns are usually addressed through clear company policies and compliance with relevant laws.

What are some common challenges drivers face when working with driver-facing camera systems and how can they address them?

Drivers may initially feel uncomfortable or self-conscious about being recorded by driver-facing cameras, as it can feel intrusive. Over time, most professionals adapt as they realize the primary purpose is safety and not micromanagement. Clear communication from management about camera usage, privacy policies, and how footage is reviewed can help ease concerns. It's helpful for drivers to ask questions during onboarding and participate in any training offered to fully understand how the cameras work and how the data is used to support safe driving practices.

Job description

Regional CDL-A Flatbed Drivers
Home Every Weekend | Family-Owned Since 1928
Tired of being a truck number instead of a name? Join a family-owned flatbed carrier where you’re home every weekend, your paycheck is predictable, and your truck is set up to make your life easier on the road.

About Summerford Truck Line:
Summerford Truck Line is a family-owned flatbed company based in Ashford, Alabama, with over 98 years and four generations in the business. We’ve grown into a nationally recognized carrier, but we still run on small-company values: safety, respect, and doing things the right way.
The Regional Driver Position:
  • Position: Regional Class A CDL Flatbed Driver (Company W2)
  • Freight: Primarily flatbed, 50% drop & hook / 50% live load–unload.
  • Typical Weekly Miles: 2,500–3,000
  • Home Time: Guaranteed home every weekend,
  • Terminals/Primary Lanes: Southeast and surrounding regional markets.

What You’ll Earn:
  • Average weekly pay: around $1,300–$1,500, with a guaranteed weekly minimum for regional drivers.
  • New drivers can earn $80,000+ in their first year with performance-based pay schedules.
  • Mileage pay that increases with tenure and experience, plus safety and performance incentives.
  • Additional pay for short-haul loads under 100 miles, detention, and layover when applicable.

Benefits That Have Your Back:
  • Full benefits package: medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, and 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid holidays and paid vacation after your first year, with weeks added as your tenure grows.
  • Optional legal coverage and reimbursement for certain credentialing costs like TWIC fees.
  • Recruiting bonuses: earn extra per mile for every qualified driver you refer who joins the team, with no cap as long as you both stay employed.
Equipment & Comfort:
  • Mostly Automatic Transmissions.
  • Trucks equipped with refrigerators, satellite radio, APUs, and no driver-facing cameras.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Valid Class A CDL.
  • At least 24 months of recent tractor-trailer experience (flatbed training available for the right driver).
  • Generally clean MVR: no more than two moving violations in the last three years.
  • Strong safety record and professional attitude.
  • Willingness to handle tarping (more frequent in winter than in summer).

Why Drivers Stay:
Our drivers consistently point to three reasons they stay with Summerford: they’re home when we say they’ll be, their pay is steady and competitive, and they’re treated like part of the family, not just a truck number. With nearly a century on the road, we’ve built a culture where you can build a long-term, stable career—not just your next job.
How to Apply:
Ready to run regionally with a family-owned flatbed carrier that does things, right? Apply online, right now!
