Job description

Commercial FEL Driver operates a heavy-duty truck with a front end load lift attachment. Drivers are responsible for providing the pick-up service of containers (may weigh in excess of 1,000 lbs) filled with waste or recyclable material. Driver will transport material to a disposal, MRF, transfer or recycle facility when truck reaches legal weight limit or maximum load capacity. Driver will maneuver truck into and out of restricted spaces and climbs out of truck cab and physically open gate in order to service container.

  • Performs complete DOT required pre and post trip inspection and documents utilizing the standard DOT forms.
  • Drives heavy diesel truck to and from customer locations and disposal area(s)
  • Driver navigates high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots
  • Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential to perform the job
  • Moves container to position accessible by truck and closes all enclosure gates, as necessary
  • Operates hydraulic hand controls to lift/load refuse, operate compactor and dispose of collected material at the designated facility
  • Cleans waste from the packer blade and truck body on each landfill or transfer station run
  • Courteously interacts with customers, dispatchers and supervisors
  • Cleans up the area around accidental waste and recyclable spills
  • Reads route sheets to determine day's schedule and services each customer as identified on the route sheet or as assigned by dispatcher or supervisor
  • Notifies Route Manager of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage
  • Notifies Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed lots, streets, alleyways or potential safety hazards
  • Completes required route/productivity sheets, Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs) and other forms
  • Performs all driver check-in procedures upon returning to the facility at the end of the day
  • Follow all company policies per Employee Handbook & Code of Conduct
  • Follow all company safety guidelines
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
