Job description

NOTICE OF VACANCY

 

Jackson Madison County School System

   

TITLE: Bus Driver

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

 

SUPERVISES: Bus Attendant (if applicable)

 

TERM: 10 months (188-day calendar), Non-exempt

 

JOB GOAL: To operate and transport school-aged children and other authorized personnel safely and efficiently over specified routes to and from school and various activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:

 
  • High school diploma or GED
  • CDL Endorsement preferred, but will train if the driver does not have a CDL Endorsement
  • Meet health, mental, and physical requirements
  • FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years
 

Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable

 

EVALULATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
  1. Abides by all local, state, and federal traffic laws, rules, and regulations.
  2. Transports students over specified routes according to time scheduled.
  3. Maintains appropriate student conduct when students are on the bus and reports any student misconduct to the principal.
  4. Performs daily mechanical checks on oil, gas, tires, lights, and doors.
  5. Reports needed repairs to the bus garage.
  6. Cleans bus daily.
  7. Reports all accidents promptly and complete required reports.
  8. Assumes responsibility for knowing and following the safety rules and proper procedures associated with the responsibilities of the job.
  9. Checks the bus at the end of each run to ensure that all students have left the bus.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
