What is the difference between Driver Bus Driver vs Driver Delivery Driver?

AspectDriver Bus DriverDriver Delivery Driver
Required CredentialsCommercial driver's license (CDL), passenger endorsementStandard driver's license, sometimes a commercial license for larger vehicles
Work EnvironmentPublic transit vehicles, bus stations, routes with passengersDelivery trucks, warehouses, customer locations
Employer & IndustryPublic transit agencies, schools, tour companiesCourier companies, retail, food delivery services

While both roles involve driving, a Driver Bus Driver primarily transports passengers on scheduled routes using a bus and requires a CDL with passenger endorsements. In contrast, a Driver Delivery Driver focuses on delivering goods, often with a standard or commercial license, and works in logistics or retail sectors. The key differences lie in their work environment, credentials, and the nature of their duties.

How difficult is it to become a bus driver?

Becoming a bus driver typically requires a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and passing a background check. Many regions also require a special commercial driver's license (CDL) and completion of a training program, which covers safety procedures and vehicle operation. The process can take several weeks to months depending on licensing requirements and training availability.

What disqualifies you from being a bus driver?

Bus drivers are typically disqualified if they have a poor driving record, including a history of traffic violations or accidents, or if they have a criminal background involving offenses such as DUI or violence. Additionally, failing to meet age requirements, lacking a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), or having health issues that prevent safe driving can disqualify candidates.

What type of bus driver makes the most money?

Long-haul or interstate bus drivers tend to earn higher salaries compared to local or city bus drivers due to longer routes and increased responsibilities. Additionally, bus drivers with specialized skills, such as operating double-decker or articulated buses, or those with advanced certifications, often have higher earning potential.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Safely transporting students to and from school on assigned routes
  • Driving sports teams, groups, and charters to events

  • Good driving record
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Friendly, reliable, and punctual
  • Must complete a background check, drug screening, and physical exam

Why Drivers Choose Lamers Bus Lines
  • Paid CDL Training - We pay you to earn your Commercial Driver's License, with experienced trainers guiding you every step of the way.

  • Monthly Bonus Opportunities - Our Safety & Attendance Bonus program rewards you for doing exactly what great drivers do: showing up and driving safely.
  • Child Ride-Along Program - Have young kids? Bring them along on your school route and save on childcare costs.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan - Save for your future.
  • Extra Earning Potential - Pick up charter runs for sports teams, weddings, field trips, and special events on your own schedule.

Our Bonus Program
At Lamers Bus Lines, we don't offer new hire bonuses - and that's intentional. Instead of one-time sign-on incentives, we believe in showing every driver that they're valued every month, every year, for as long as they're part of our team. Our commitment doesn't have an expiration date. All we ask is that you show up on time and drive safely - because drivers who do that deserve to be recognized consistently, not just when they first walk through the door.
