Nutrition Coordinator
Employment Status: Part-Time. Non-Exempt
Reports To: Emery County Aging Program Manager
Wage Allocation: $ 15 / hour
Job Description
The Senior Center Nutrition Coordinator manages the comprehensive planning, preparation, and delivery of nutritional services for seniors. This role oversees both congregate meal services within senior centers and the home-delivered meals. Responsibilities include ensuring strict adherence to food safety protocols, managing kitchen staff and delivery drivers, and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local nutritional guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations of the nutrition program including administrative tasks such as record-keeping, correspondence and managing office supplies,
  • Ensuring all services meet Federal and State regulations.
  • Develop and implement menus that meet required nutritional values while ensuring all food preparation follows strict safety guidelines, including proper thawing and temperature maintenance.
  • Ensure all food preparation equipment, cooking utensils, and dining areas are kept in an orderly, clean, safe and sanitary condition.
  • Organizer and Maintaining kitchen to ensure compliance with all relevant safety codes..
  • Recruit, train, and supervise kitchen staff and delivery drivers. Monitor staff performance regarding hygiene, professional behavior, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Manage the rescreening process for Home-Delivered Meal (HDM) participants to ensure services reach those with the greatest social and economic need.
  • Ensure program compliance regarding caregiver meals, limiting provision to one designated caregiver per eligible participant.
  • Maintain accurate records of meals served and program utilization; perform daily, monthly, and quarterly data entry and reporting.
  • Monitor food costs and assist with the development of the nutrition program's operating budget.
  • Oversee kitchen-specific safety and sanitation, ensuring high-touch surfaces are disinfected and potential hazards are mitigated immediately.
  • Check email each working day.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to provide clear direction to staff and redirect inappropriate behavior or policy violations professionally.
  • Strong computer skills for reporting and data management, and the ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely.

  • Ability to maintain a gossip-free environment and model professional behavior at all times.
  • Proven ability to resolve service complaints and address kitchen-related challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; A bachelor's degree in gerontology, nutrition, social work, or a related field is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Food Safety Manager's Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must acquire and annually renew certifications for CPR and First Aid.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in senior center operations, large-scale kitchen management, or program coordination for older adults.
  • Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a kitchen or facility environment.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and move objects or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled kitchen/center, but may involve exposure to various weather conditions when coordinating deliveries.
  • Must be able to convey detailed instructions accurately and hear normal conversations in a busy environment.
