Carter Lumber has an amazing opportunity for a remote Truss Designer - Checker working with our National Accounts design team.  A Carter Lumber Truss Designer - Checker is responsible for performing a thorough double check of truss, EWP, and wall panel orders using a component checklist to reduce design mistakes to an acceptable level. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary for this position. 

*MUST BE AUTHORIZED TO WORK IN THE U.S.*

Requirements to be Considered for this Position:

  • Previous experience in designing roof and floor trusses, wall panels, and EWP
  • Ability to check other designers work for mistakes and positively communicate the corrections to team members.
  • Working knowledge of optimization and best design practices for components.
  • Previous experience using MiTek truss design software; 20/20 or SE
  • High level of knowledge in the application of the products being designed
  • Competency in basic mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Knowledge in reading architectural and structural plans
  • Ability to trouble shoot and problem solve with strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Responsibilities of the Position:

Component Checking

  • Performs all checking responsibilities related to Truss, EWP, and Wall Panel design.
  • Reviews each assigned order for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Shares the suggested corrections with the component designers.
  • Tracks common errors and makes suggestions for training topics.
  • Communicates effectively with both internal and external customers.
Designing
  • Creates design illustrations based from blueprints to produce working drawings for fabrication.
  • Completes and finalizes designs for production and assembly.
  • Evaluates designs to ensure that design standards are being met.
  • Reviews and analyzes specifications, blueprints, engineered drawings and related designs to determine factors affecting design of the wall, truss and engineered wood components.
  • Communicates with production teams, customers and Store Managers to ensure designs are accurate throughout the process.
  • Assists stores in responding to questions/concerns from customers.
