Steel Modeler

The Steel Modeler will be responsible for producing accurate, complete, and high-quality detail drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel projects using Tekla Structures. The role requires a strong focus on precision, timeliness, and collaboration to ensure seamless coordination between design, manufacturing, and site teams.

Reporting to: Drafting Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Build detailed 3D models of structural and miscellaneous steel components, following architectural and structural contract drawings. Ensure the models accurately represent the project requirements and specifications.
  • Create and maintain standard connection details to simplify and streamline assembly during the installation process. Ensure consistency across models for easy onsite assembly.
  • Ensure attention to detail when handling changes, revisions, and updates to existing drawings. Proactively monitor revisions to avoid errors and maintain consistency across the entire project.
  • Manage the preparation and coordination of assembly drawings and erection plans. Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure alignment between design and erection requirements.
  • Generate accurate PowerFab reports directly from 3D models. Ensure reports contain complete, clear, and correct information for fabrication and installation teams.
  • Export completed projects via PowerFab to ensure seamless data flow to the fabrication process.
  • Coordinate with other departments and team members including Project Managers, Drafters, Estimators, etc. to ensure accurate production schedules and project timelines are met.

Qualifications


  • 5+ years of proven experience modelling, drafting and detailing for steel structures and miscellaneous metals.
  • Certification or formal training in steel detailing or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Tekla Structures or similar 3D modeling software.
  • Familiarity with PowerFab or similar reporting software.
  • Solid understanding of structural steel detailing and fabrication processes, including knowledge of industry standards and codes related to structural steel.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly with revisions and updates to existing drawings.
  • Experience in generating and managing assembly drawings and erection plans.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex structural and architectural contract drawings.
