Job description

Job Description

Data Processing Developer

Columbia, MD | Full Time | TS/SCI with Polygraph Required

Position: Data Processing Developer (DPD) (Levels 5–7)

Location: Columbia, MD (on-site)

Category: Software Engineering / Data Engineering / Systems Architecture

Clearance Requirement: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph

Compensation: $150,000 – $200,000 (annualized USD)

Experience Requirement:

  • Experience requirements vary by level (5-7) and may include a combination of education, certifications, and relevant professional experience.

Description

Data Processing Developers (DPDs) design, build, and evolve the systems that turn raw data into something people can actually use. You will architect new data processing and presentation systems, create custom automated data flows to make domain-specific data human-readable, integrate new flows with existing data repositories, and advocate for transition plans that move the team off legacy platforms toward long-term, sustainable solutions.

This is hands-on engineering work with real ownership: the pipelines and tools you build feed downstream analysts and stakeholders directly.

A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cyber Operations, Computer Networks, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Information Assurance, or Network Administration is applicable for LCAT level determination.

Responsibilities

  • Architect new data processing and presentation systems for downstream users.

  • Create custom automated data flows to make domain-specific data human-readable.

  • Integrate new data flows with existing data repositories.

  • Design and advocate for transition plans that move the team from legacy systems to long-term, more sustainable solutions.

  • Design, build, and maintain databases that support new and existing workloads.

  • Translate vague or evolving non-technical requirements into flexible technical solutions.

Skills Requirements

  • Experience with cloud computing and virtualization technology.

  • Strong programming skills.

  • Experience architecting, creating, and maintaining databases.

  • Familiarity with Python, Perl, Bash, MySQL, MSSQL, and Django.

  • Ability to work independently and create flexible solutions based on vague, non-technical customer requirements.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with additional data processing frameworks (Apache Kafka, Airflow, Spark).

  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).

  • Front-end experience for building lightweight data presentation UIs.

  • Experience with observability and data-quality tooling.

  • Prior experience migrating off legacy data platforms.

Compensation Employment Policy

Salary is determined by multiple factors, including location, education, experience, skills, and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $150,000 – $200,000 (annualized USD).
