Job description

Manual Machinist

Position Summary:
Collaborate with machinists and craftsmen in the Central Repair Shop to refurbish and manufacture parts for equipment repairs in accordance with Dow specifications for LAO operation areas maintained by nested maintenance groups.

This requisition was created to generate a pool of candidates for potential work in these areas.

Primary Responsibilities:

Follow all shop procedures and safety rules without exception.
Accurately read and use precision measuring tools.
Set up and machine precision fits on lathes, mills, key seaters, surface grinders, and drill presses.
Understand and apply proper use of machining tools, inserts, and alloys.
Set up balancing machines for components or assemblies as needed.
Use machine attachments such as tool post grinders, indexing heads, boring bars, and taper attachments.
Perform complex machining operations safely and efficiently.
Communicate effectively with internal shops to maintain job flow.
Sharpen machining tools and drill bits accurately.
Read and interpret blueprints and layouts.
Draw accurate working sketches when required.
Understand metal properties, hardness, machinability, and heat treatment effects.

Qualifications:

Completed vocational school or equivalent certification.
Proven experience operating manual machining equipment.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and tolerances.
Knowledge of machining processes, materials, and cutting tools.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Familiarity with safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
