Job description

Software Systems Engineer / Senior Software Systems Engineer

We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.

This position does not offer relocation assistance.

Job Summary

This Software Systems Engineer will work in the Advanced Distribution Management Systems team to support critical operational technology systems. This individually will serve as a business and technical resource on the team to help support key software, processes, and development to support stakeholders in electric distribution.

Under general supervision, works from specifications to develop or modify moderately complex software programming applications and information systems. Assists with the design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs. Works with an individual business unit on specific project assignments. Guides and advises less experienced Software Systems Engineers. Requires guidance in complex problem areas. Errors may cause minor delay, expense, and disruption.

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

Experience working with Linux, C/C++, Python

Strong Preference: experience working with Emerson Monarch Platforms (SCADA), Oracle ADMS software, and/or critical operational technology. Additionally, experience with DNP, Multispeak and ICCP (protocols)

Mid Level - 2+ years of experience

Senior Level - 5+ years of experience

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Bachelor

Preferred Discipline(s): Business, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.

Working Conditions

Travel Up to 25%

Deadline oriented, 50% - 75%. Fast pace environment, 50% - 75%. Will be required to work on call, rotating shifts, overtime, weekends and holidays. Requires working in extreme cold or hot temperatures. Requires working on uneven or slippery surfaces. Some areas involve a 4/10-hour day work week. Involves work around live gas. Exposure to non-ionizing radiation from welding, flashes and sunburns. May involve close eye contact work. May require long periods of standing or walking. Out-of-town work and overnight stays will be required in some departments.
