What does a domain broker do?

A Domain Broker helps individuals and businesses buy or sell domain names by negotiating on their behalf. They leverage industry expertise, market insights, and negotiation skills to secure the best possible deal. Brokers often work with premium domains, assisting buyers in acquiring hard-to-get names or helping sellers maximize their domain's value. Their role includes researching availability, contacting domain owners, and facilitating secure transactions.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a domain broker?

To thrive as a Domain Broker, you need strong negotiation skills, research abilities, and expertise in digital asset valuation, often backed by experience in sales or online marketing. Familiarity with domain marketplace platforms, CRM software, and WHOIS lookup tools is typically important, as are any certifications in digital marketing or sales. Exceptional communication, persistence, and relationship-building skills will help you stand out in building client trust and closing deals. These capabilities are critical for sourcing high-value domains, navigating competitive markets, and ensuring successful transactions in a fast-paced digital environment.

What are common challenges faced by domain brokers in their day-to-day work?

Domain Brokers often face the challenge of sourcing premium or in-demand domain names in a highly competitive market, where many desirable domains may already be owned or priced at a premium. Negotiating fair prices between buyers and sellers with differing expectations can also be complex and requires strong communication and persuasion skills. Additionally, staying informed about market trends and the legal aspects of domain ownership is crucial. Successful brokers must balance persistence and professionalism to build long-term relationships and consistently close beneficial deals for all parties involved.

How do you become a domain broker?

To become a domain broker, you should gain knowledge of domain valuation, sales processes, and negotiation skills, often through self-education or industry courses. Building a network within the domain industry and gaining experience by buying, selling, or managing domain portfolios can also help establish credibility. Certifications are not mandatory but can enhance your expertise and credibility in the field.

How much do domain brokers make?

Domain brokers typically earn between $50,000 and $150,000 annually, with top performers making over $200,000 through commissions on high-value domain sales. Income depends on experience, sales volume, and the value of domains negotiated, often supplemented by commissions or performance-based bonuses.

So if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every single qualification in the job description, nobody's perfect - and we encourage you to apply. You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles.

About the Role

We are seeking a strategic and execution-oriented Senior Product Manager to lead strategic broker-facing product initiatives within our Benefits Broker Distribution domain. In this role, you will deeply immerse yourself into the Benefits Broker persona, identifying and driving solutions that improve the broker experience and drive business results across external distribution channels.

You will work closely with engineering, design, operations, sales, and other cross-functional partners to shape product strategy, translate complex needs into actionable requirements, and deliver high-impact capabilities from concept through launch.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy and Discovery

  • Identify and validate broker, partner, customer, and business needs, along with market opportunities that inform product direction
  • Conduct customer, market, and stakeholder research to shape broker-facing product strategy and experience improvements
  • Translate strategic goals into product opportunities that support distribution growth and partner success

Roadmap and Backlog Management

  • Execute and evolve the roadmap for assigned broker distribution products, partner-facing capabilities, or referral workflows
  • Define, prioritize, and maintain the product backlog for one or more delivery teams
  • Translate complex broker and business needs into clear requirements, user stories, and actionable delivery plans

Cross-Functional Delivery

  • Work closely with engineering, design, operations, sales, and business partners to deliver high-quality broker-facing solutions
  • Support agile planning and execution through ceremonies such as sprint planning, demos, retrospectives, and PI planning
  • Manage dependencies across teams, functions, external partners, and operational stakeholders to keep delivery on track

Delivery and Performance

  • Drive timely, high-quality delivery of initiatives aligned to broker, customer, and business outcomes
  • Measure product performance using KPIs and other relevant success metrics
  • Use feedback, data, and continuous improvement practices to reduce friction and strengthen adoption

Launch and Adoption

  • Support product launches, broker enablement, partner onboarding, and adoption efforts for external-facing capabilities
  • Partner with sales, marketing, operations, and customer teams to support successful go-to-market execution
  • Incorporate customer and partner feedback into future roadmap planning and product enhancements

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of product management experience or comparable experience in a related role
  • Experience in the employee benefits brokerage ecosystem, partner distribution models, referral-driven channels, or a related industry
  • Experience delivering external- or partner-facing technology products and capabilities
  • Strong knowledge of agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe
  • Demonstrated success working across cross-functional, matrixed teams and bringing clarity to ambiguous problems
  • Strong prioritization skills with the ability to balance customer, partner, and business value
  • Excellent analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and requirements-definition skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a value stream, product operating model, or similar cross-functional environment
  • Background in insurance, benefits administration, quoting, renewals, book-of-business management, or distribution technology
  • Familiarity with broker workflows, partner enablement models, or the needs of external distribution partners
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar product delivery platforms
  • Agile certification such as Certified Scrum Product Owner or SAFe PO/PM
  • A strong sense of ownership, resilience, and attention to detail in driving outcomes

The preferred location for this role is Atlanta, GA, and the salary range for this location is $89,600.00 to $168,000.00.
