What is a dog sitter?

Dog sitters are individuals who provide care for dogs while their owners are away. Their responsibilities typically include feeding, walking, playing with, and sometimes administering medication to dogs. Dog sitters may work in the owner's home or bring the dog to their own home, depending on the arrangement. They help ensure that pets remain comfortable, safe, and happy in their owner's absence. Hiring a dog sitter can help reduce stress and anxiety for both the dog and the owner.

What do dog sitters do?

A Dog Sitter takes care of a dog when its owner is away. The Dog Sitter schedules time for the dog to have food and exercise while adhering to all instructions given by the dog owner. Typical Dog Sitter duties include feeding the dog on schedule, taking it to the vet if it becomes ill, administering medications, and walking the dog regularly. Managing feeding times, walks, and play sessions while ensuring each dog receives individual attention can be demanding. It’s also important to monitor interactions closely to prevent conflicts and to be familiar with each dog's specific medical or behavioral needs. Good communication with pet owners and strong organizational skills are essential to handle these situations smoothly.

Job description

Do you love your dog or cat? Then you know how important our pets are to us. We are seeking volunteers who would like to help keep pets and their people together throughout their lives. When patients enter hospice care, the needs of their pets can be overlooked. As a volunteer with the Pet Peace of Mind (PPoM) program offered by ACG Hospice, you can participate in promoting the health and happiness of both the pet and the pet parent. Volunteer activities are many, ranging from dog walking to driving a pet to a vet or grooming appointment, from cleaning up after pets to giving one-on-one attention to a pet that may be confused by all the changes going on around them. Some PPoM volunteer duties include patient contact, while others are limited to pet care such as temporary fostering or assisting with pet rehoming. Following your hospice and PPoM training, we will work with your schedule and match your duties with your interests. Join us and let’s make the world a kinder place.
