What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in dog rescue, and how can they be managed?

Dog rescue professionals often encounter emotional challenges, including working with abused or neglected animals and making difficult decisions about their care. Managing high volumes of animals and coordinating with volunteers and adopters can also be demanding. To cope, it's important to practice self-care, seek support from team members, and participate in ongoing training. Building strong communication skills and staying organized can help professionals handle the fast-paced and emotionally charged environment typical of dog rescue organizations.

What is dog rescue?

Dog rescue refers to the process of saving dogs from dangerous, neglectful, or abusive situations and finding them safe, loving homes. Dog rescue organizations often work to rehabilitate and care for dogs that have been abandoned, surrendered, or found as strays. They provide medical care, foster homes, and adoption services to ensure each dog has the chance for a better life. Many dog rescues also advocate for responsible pet ownership and work to educate the public about animal welfare. The goal is to reduce the number of homeless dogs and help each animal find a permanent, caring family.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Dog Rescue, and why are they important?

To thrive in Dog Rescue, you need experience in animal care, knowledge of canine behavior, and often a background in veterinary assistance or animal welfare. Familiarity with animal management software, first aid certifications, and basic handling equipment is typically required. Compassion, patience, strong communication, and crisis management skills help you stand out in this field. These abilities are crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of rescued dogs while effectively coordinating adoptions and rehabilitation efforts.

Job description

Pet Care Technician - Paws Around Motown West Oakland County, Michigan • Full-Time • Open Availability • Starting Pay $14.50 - $15.50 per hour
Somewhere in Farmington, there's a golden retriever waiting by the window. In West Bloomfield, a senior cat needs her meds at noon. In Franklin, a rescue pup is learning to trust a leash again. And someone - maybe you - is supposed to be the person who shows up for them.
That's not a metaphor. That's the job.
Paws Around Motown is a professional mobile pet care company serving Oakland County. We're not a side hustle, a hobby, or an app. We are a structured, systems-driven team of pet care professionals who take this work as seriously as the families who trust us with their keys, their pets, and their peace of mind.
We're hiring a full-time Pet Care Technician to cover our west side route: Farmington, Southfield, West Bloomfield, Franklin, and Bloomfield Hills. This is the territory of long driveways, quiet streets, and clients who have been with us for years. The pace is steady. The relationships are deep. The work matters.
Here's what we're really saying: we are not looking for someone "trying this out." We are looking for someone who has been waiting their whole life for a job like this - and wants to grow in it.
WHAT THIS ROLE ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
  • Dog walking, feeding, hydration, and medication administration in clients' homes
  • Snout-to-Tail Health Assessments at every visit - you are the early warning system for that family
  • Written client updates and photos through our CRM after every service
  • Calm, confident handling of pets of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments
  • Occasional overnight care, new client consultations, and light marketing tasks
  • Outdoor work in every Michigan season - including February

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're not hiring someone who "loves dogs." Plenty of people love dogs. We're hiring someone who:
  • Has open availability - mornings, midday, evenings, weekends, holidays
  • Wants a career in pet care, not a fill-in until something else comes along
  • Is dependable to the minute and detailed to the dot
  • Can be trusted with a key, a code, and a quiet house
  • Stays calm when a dog gets sick, a key sticks, or a thunderstorm rolls in
  • Communicates clearly before, during, and after every visit

WHAT WE OFFER
  • Real training, real systems, and real leadership
  • A defined growth path - Senior PCS, Team Leader, and beyond
  • Paid time off, paid holidays, and a culture that holds a standard
  • 401K
  • A team that has each other's backs - and yours
  • The chance to build a career around the work you've always wanted to do

READY?
If you read this and felt your shoulders drop a little - like finally, someone wrote a job posting that actually sounds like the job I want - apply.
