What is dog modeling?

Dog modeling is a specialized field where dogs are trained and photographed or filmed for advertisements, commercials, magazines, television shows, movies, or product campaigns. These canine models showcase products such as pet food, accessories, or clothing, and often work with professional trainers and handlers to perform specific tasks or poses. Success in dog modeling often depends on a dog's appearance, temperament, obedience, and ability to follow commands. Dog models may be represented by animal talent agencies and can participate in casting calls for various projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dog model?

To thrive as a Dog Model, dogs typically need basic obedience training, a calm temperament, and the ability to follow commands, while handlers should have experience in animal handling and training. Familiarity with photo or film set environments, experience with props and costumes, and sometimes certifications in obedience or therapy work are valuable. A standout dog model exhibits patience, sociability, and adaptability to new and potentially distracting situations. These skills and qualities ensure the dog can perform reliably in diverse settings, which is essential for successful photoshoots, commercials, or events.

What are some common challenges dog models and their handlers face during photo shoots and how can they be overcome?

Dog modeling often involves unpredictable situations, such as distractions on set, unfamiliar environments, or difficulty getting the dog to pose as needed. Handlers can address these challenges by ensuring their dog is well-trained in basic commands, gradually exposing them to different environments, and bringing familiar toys or treats to maintain focus and motivation. Patience and positive reinforcement are key, and collaborating closely with the photographer and crew helps create a calm, productive atmosphere for the dog.

Job description

About your team and position:
Sundays is building its first field sales team, starting in Austin, to bring the brand into direct contact with dog owners at events and markets. The Field Sales Representative will be one of the first people on the ground for this program, representing Sundays in person, demoing product, and driving trial and sales at local farmers markets, dog parks, and events.
This is a ground-floor role: there isn't an established playbook yet, and your results and feedback will directly shape how the field program is built as it expands to other markets. You'll operate independently, managing your own schedule and territory within Austin, with regular check-ins to share results and feedback with the Growth Marketing team. This is a contract position starting at 20-30 hours per week.
Your day-to-day:
  • Represent Sundays in person at farmers markets, dog parks, and local events, building brand awareness in the Austin market
  • Pitch and demo Sundays food to dog owners at events, driving product trial and direct sales
  • Engage attendees in genuine conversation about the brand and answer questions about the product
  • Track and report event performance (attendance, trial/sales numbers) back to the Growth Marketing team
  • Share field feedback to help shape event selection, messaging, and the broader field sales strategy as the program scales

We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • You have experience in sales, retail, brand ambassador work, or another customer-facing role
  • You have the ability to work independently and manage your own schedule and territory
  • You have strong interpersonal skills and are comfortable approaching people
  • You have reliable transportation and are willing to travel locally to events
  • You have a genuine interest in dogs and pet products

About Sundays for Dogs
Sundays for Dogs is a founder-led, direct-to-consumer brand reimagining pet food so dog owners can spend more quality time with their dogs - now and later. We make human-grade, air-dried food that supports long, healthy lives, and we build our company around shared core values that guide how we work and how we treat each other.
We're headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, with a primarily remote team of ~50 full-time employees across the U.S. While we work distributed day to day, we come together in person on a quarterly basis because relationships matter. Our business today is 100% DTC, with our subscription model at the core of how we serve customers - and we're building to scale with intention. We're just getting started...
