Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Electrical Engineer, Power to join our team supporting the DOE's Y-12 National Security Complex! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Candidate will provide CNS Mission Engineering with full time electrical design engineering support in Y-12 Facility Design for facility and production area activities needed to expedite the closure of Change Requests for Configuration Managed systems that have been returned to service for longer than 90 days.

Responsibilities
  • Familiar with and experience in developing design output in accordance with CNS and consensus national standards (ie. NFPA 70/ National Electrical Code, ASME, etc.).
  • Experience in a NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable along with an understanding of Conduct of Engineering and Conduct of Operations for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various production and support organizations.
  • Review Change Requests (CRs) for systems that have been Returned to Service (RTS) >90days that have not been closed.
  • Identify the Affected Documents associated with CRs RTS that need to be revised to reflect the work covered by the CR.
  • Perform walkdowns as needed to verify that the work covered by the CRs has been performed.
  • Review and compare information shown on Affected Documents to work defined by the CRs.
  • Prepare redline markups of Affected Documents to reflect the incorporation of the work covered by the CRs.
  • Provide the redlined copy of the Affected Documents to drafting personnel for incorporation onto the Parent CM document.
  • Provide check/verification that Affected Documents reflect incorporation of CR information correctly.
Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering discipline and 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Experience providing electrical design engineering support for industrial, nuclear, DOE, or other highly regulated facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and design requirements, including NFPA 70/National Electrical Code (NEC) and relevant consensus standards.
  • Experience developing and reviewing electrical engineering design outputs in accordance with established engineering procedures and standards.
  • Experience working with configuration-managed systems and controlled engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of Configuration Management (CM) principles, including document revision, change incorporation, and design documentation control.
  • Experience reviewing and processing Change Requests (CRs) and associated engineering documentation.
  • Ability to identify affected drawings, specifications, calculations, and other controlled documents requiring revision following system modifications.
  • Experience performing facility and system walkdowns to verify installed conditions and completed modifications.
  • Ability to compare field conditions, Change Request requirements, and existing design documentation to identify discrepancies.
  • Proficiency in preparing redline markups of electrical drawings and other affected engineering documents.
  • Experience coordinating with designers and drafting personnel to incorporate engineering changes into parent configuration-managed documents.
  • Ability to perform technical checks and verification of revised drawings and documents to ensure Change Request information has been incorporated accurately.
  • Understanding of design change control, document control, and engineering configuration processes.
  • Ability to effectively interface with engineering, production, operations, maintenance, drafting, configuration management, and other support organizations.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple Change Requests, and support the timely closure of outstanding configuration management documentation.
Desired Skills
  • Experience in a DOE- or NRC-regulated nuclear environment is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of Conduct of Engineering and Conduct of Operations principles within nuclear facilities is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Y-12/CNS engineering processes, procedures, and configuration management requirements is highly desirable.

The NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation’s only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies (energy.gov).
