What does a Doctors Office RN do?

A Doctors Office RN, or Registered Nurse, works in a physician's office to provide direct patient care, assist with examinations, administer medications, and perform diagnostic tests. They are responsible for patient education, preparing patients for procedures, and updating medical records. Additionally, they coordinate care between the doctor and patients, ensuring clear communication and follow-up. Their role is vital for maintaining efficient and quality patient care in an outpatient setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Doctors Office RN?

A Doctor's Office RN needs strong clinical assessment skills, knowledge of outpatient procedures, and a current RN license. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and experience with office-based equipment are typically required. Excellent communication, organization, and patient education abilities help RNs provide quality care and coordinate effectively with both patients and providers. These competencies ensure efficient workflow, accurate documentation, and a positive patient experience in a busy office environment.

What are some unique challenges an RN may face working in a doctors office compared to a hospital setting?

Working as an RN in a doctor's office can present unique challenges such as managing a high volume of patient appointments in a short timeframe and handling a wide variety of administrative tasks like patient education, triage, and follow-up calls. Unlike hospital nursing, office RNs often work more independently and may take on responsibilities like coordinating care, assisting with minor procedures, and ensuring accurate documentation. The pace can be fast, and multitasking is essential, but the regular hours and close-knit team environment are often seen as benefits. Collaboration with physicians, medical assistants, and administrative staff is frequent, requiring strong communication and organizational skills.

What is the difference between Doctors Office Rn vs Medical Assistant?

AspectDoctors Office RnMedical Assistant
CredentialsRegistered Nurse license, RN certificationHigh school diploma or equivalent, certification often preferred
Work EnvironmentDoctor's offices, clinics, outpatient settingsDoctor's offices, clinics, outpatient settings
Job ResponsibilitiesPatient assessments, administering medications, care planningVital signs, patient prep, administrative tasks

Doctors Office Rn and Medical Assistant roles both work in outpatient healthcare settings, but RNs have more advanced training, allowing them to perform complex patient care and assessments. Medical Assistants typically handle administrative duties and basic clinical tasks. The RN role requires licensure and certification, whereas Medical Assistants may only need certification or training. Both positions are essential in supporting healthcare delivery in doctors' offices.

Job description

Registered Nurse Position

Location: Greenwich, Connecticut

Schedule: 5/8s traditional business hours no weekends required!

Compensation: $159,000-$171,000/year based on experience

Longevity: We are seeking an RN who is looking for a long-term professional home and is excited to build lasting relationships with patients and colleagues over the coming years.

Who are we?

Private Medical has spent the last 20 years creating a new category of concierge medicine โ€” private medicine โ€” by designing a system that honors the relationship between patients, physicians, and each member of the care team. Based in California, New York, and Florida, our physician-led teams work in concert with our Gynecologists, Naturopathic Medicine Doctors, curated local specialists, elite medical centers, and specialists around the world, to provide relationship focused, evidence-based, longitudinal care to our members and their families. Private Medical is, by design, privately held and free from any conflicts of interests.

Right now we're looking for an experienced RN to join our brand new office in Greenwich. You will be practicing adult primary care nursing in a personable, non-hospital environment, one unencumbered by time or volume requirements dictated by insurance or institutional protocols. There is great patient interaction and close teamwork with physicians, fellow nurses and other team members. You will have time to invest in deep relationships with patients, and your success will not be measured based on volume or time, but on providing the best quality care at a high level of service. You have to be willing to have a great client service attitude - gracious, personable, and accommodating.

About You:
  • Active Connecticut RN license & BLS certification
  • Minimum of three (3) years as an RN in a hospital or outpatient clinic
  • Bachelor's degree required, BSN preferred
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • The ability to harness independence and autonomy, when necessary, as well as the ability to work seamlessly as part of a team
  • Flexibility and willingness to occasionally work after hours or on weekends, if necessary
  • Positive and proactive!
  • Sound clinical and personal judgment and professional demeanor
  • Proven leader with track record of providing extraordinary patient care and customer service
  • Advanced computer literacy, primarily with Apple products
What Will You Be Doing In This Role?
  • Provide world class, comprehensive, customized nursing care to our patients - this includes seeing patients in our office for appointments and doing house calls as needed to the patients' homes
  • Work closely with teams of doctors and patient care coordinators to ensure best patient health and satisfaction outcomes
  • In addition to working with patients in the Private Medical office, you will prepare for and execute all-inclusive visits to patients' homes and offices
  • Perform blood draws, IV therapies, therapeutic phlebotomy, and routine and travel vaccinations
  • Correspond directly with patients on a routine basis, fostering a relationship of trust and reliability
  • Coordinate prescriptions and refills with pharmacies worldwide
  • Document all therapies, procedures, medications, and clinically relevant patient interaction into the electronic medical record
Whats In It For You?
  • A competitive starting salary commensurate with experience and skills
  • 401(k) with a match (up to 3% of salary)
  • Robust health benefits and paid time off
  • 10 paid holidays off & 1 floating holiday
  • ...and most importantly more time to provide outstanding care for patients and work with great colleagues!
What Is The Interview Process For This Role?

Thank you for your interest in joining Private Medical. We believe the interview process should be as transparent, thoughtful, and engaging as the care we provide to our members.

Throughout the process, you'll be working closely with me, Leah, who will serve as your primary point of contact. I look forward to getting to know you and helping guide you through each step of the candidate journey!

Our interview process includes:

Application Review Once we receive your application, our team will carefully review your experience and qualifications. If your background aligns with what we're seeking, we'll reach out to schedule an introductory conversation.

Initial Conversation with HR This conversation is an opportunity for us to learn more about your experience, career goals, and what you're looking for in your next opportunity. It's also a chance for you to learn more about Private Medical, our culture, and the role.

Hiring Manager Interview Qualified candidates will then meet with the hiring manager to discuss the position in greater depth, including responsibilities, team dynamics, and how your experience may contribute to our continued success.

Team Interviews We believe hiring is a collaborative process. Finalists will have the opportunity to meet key members of the team and gain a broader understanding of how we work together to deliver an exceptional experience for our patients and colleagues.

Skills Assessment & Shadow Experience (Clinical Roles) Candidates interviewing for Registered Nurse and Medical Assistant positions will participate in a role-specific skills assessment (phlebotomy and EKG included) and shadow experience. This allows both you and our team to gain a realistic understanding of the role, the work environment, and what success looks like at Private Medical.

We understand that interviewing is a significant investment of your time. Our commitment is to provide clear communication, timely updates, and a respectful candidate experience throughout the process.

At Private Medical, we know that a great experience for patients, physicians, and the entire team transpires when people from different geographies, religions, ethnicities, political affiliations, genders, abilities, and creeds engage in collaboration. It is vital that we remain curious and compassionate towards ourselves and others, that we celebrate the new perspectives diversity invites us to see, and that we learn and adapt to the influence of our community to foster a safe and collaborative space.
