We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in simulation and any of the following specialty areas: medical-surgical, maternal-child, or mental health nursing. We offer a flexible start date of either January 1, 2027, or August 15, 2027, depending on the availability of the successful candidate.
Employment Type: Full-Time (1.0 FTE), Benefits-Eligible; Exempt (Salaried)
Prerequisites
Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in nursing or a related field (PhD, DNP, or EdD) is preferred; but we will consider Master's prepared nurses with either a doctorate in progress (please indicate anticipated completion date if in progress) or who will work toward completion of their doctorate degree during employment. (NOTE: A doctorate degree is required for tenure nomination, usually in the fifth year. Candidates without the earned doctorate will be hired at the rank of Instructor and will be eligible for support through the Gustavus Nursing Faculty Degree Completion Program.)

- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching
- Proficiency in conducting simulation-based learning and evaluation of clinical simulation
- Experience with curriculum development with simulation, using best educational pedagogy, and/or instructional design principles
- Current knowledge of patient simulation technologies. (i.e., proficiency with simulators and simulation software, AV equipment, electronic health records, and standardized patients)
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities
PreferredQualifications:
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate level
- Simulation certification completed or in process
- 5+ years of recent clinical experience in nursing
- Experience with nursing program assessment, evaluation, and accreditation activities

Primary teaching responsibilities will include a three course load in clinical simulation and medical surgical nursing, maternal newborn, or mental health courses. This position will work with all faculty to create, revise, and update simulation activities in the curriculum and maintain standards of operation and implementation of all simulation throughout the curriculum. In addition, this position will contribute to other nursing curriculum courses and potential future contributions to general education. The successful candidate will join college and departmental efforts to develop equitable pedagogies and inclusive cultures. This includes, but is not limited to, advising nursing majors and contributing to nursing department assessment, evaluation, and accreditation activities.
- Help cultivate a welcoming community where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We strive to foster an environment where people can be themselves, build community, learn, and grow.
- Elevate your teaching by joining a teaching circle, participating in workshops, applying for an internal teaching development grant, and engaging in conversations about teaching with colleagues across campus.
- Advance your scholarship by working with undergraduate research assistants, joining a writing retreat, applying for an internal grant, receiving travel funds to present at conferences, receiving help applying for external grants, and making use of our research facilities.
