Assistant‑Associate Professor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice

Full‑Time Regular, 12‑month tenure track position in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia Practice at Central Connecticut State University.

About the Department

The Department of Nurse Anesthesia (DNAP) trains critical‑care nurses to become highly proficient nurse anesthesiologists. In collaboration with Yale New Haven Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia and Integrated Anesthesia Associates’ Nurse Anesthesia Program of Hartford, the DNAP offers a practice‑based doctoral degree that prepares practitioners to lead and excel in anesthesia care.

Position Profile
  1. Teach doctoral‑level courses in the DNAP program.
  2. Coordinate courses and evaluate student performance.
  3. Participate in the evaluation of DNAP doctoral scholarly projects.
  4. Engage in curricular development and evaluation of program learning.
  5. Conduct scholarly activities, including presentations and publications.
  6. Contribute to committee service at the professional, departmental, and university levels.
  7. Maintain clinical practice.
Applicant Evaluative Criteria Education
  • Must possess a DNAP, DNP, or PhD; or be an anesthesiologist with an MD or DO. Completion of a doctorate is required by the time of appointment.
Experience and Training
  • Capable of meeting all responsibilities listed in the Position Profile.
  • Active licensure to practice nursing in the State of Connecticut or meet eligibility requirements to apply for a nursing license in Connecticut.
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with a DNAP, DNP, or PhD; or an anesthesiologist with an MD or DO. Completion of a doctorate is required by the time of appointment.
  • Current certification or recertification as a CRNA or anesthesiologist with at least one year of full‑time clinical activity.
  • College‑level teaching experience in a nurse anesthesia program within the last ten years.
Ideal Candidate
  • Clinical competency with at least six months of practice as a CRNA or anesthesiologist by the time of appointment.
  • College‑level teaching experience in programs leading to degrees in Nurse Anesthesia within the last two years.
  • Experience with current technology that enhances student learning experiences, such as simulation, virtual reality, and other active learning modalities.
  • Teaching experience that includes full preparation and course responsibilities for an entire academic term.
  • Experience in distance learning as an instructor and course designer.
  • Experience with program assessment.
Compensation and Employee Benefits

Compensation is consistent with the Connecticut State University American Association of University Professors (AAUP) Collective Bargaining Union Contract for the 2024‑2025 academic year. Salary is commensurate with experience and education.
