Job description

Patent Docketing Specialist

A leading law firm is seeking a Patent Docketing Specialist for its Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, or New York office. This role plays a key part in supporting the firm's patent practice by maintaining accurate, timely, and reliable docketing records for U.S., international, and foreign patent matters. The specialist will review correspondence, PTO documents, completed filings, and other matter-related materials to ensure critical deadlines are captured in the docketing database, reconciling as-filed documents and communications against docketed deadlines to keep records current. Additional responsibilities include monitoring a departmental email account for timely docket updates, preparing system reports and custom queries for attorneys and staff, researching and resolving docketing discrepancies, and supporting the onboarding of new matters using Patent Center, WIPO, and foreign patent office resources. The role also involves audit report reconciliation and maintaining detailed, client-specific procedural notes.

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience), prior law firm experience, and at least two years of patent docketing experience with a computerized docket system; Patricia experience and advanced foreign docketing knowledge are highly preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and data entry skills are essential. This is an hourly, non-exempt role with a base salary range of $74,000โ€“$102,000 (DC/Boston/Chicago/LA) or $81,000โ€“$112,000 (NY/SF).
