Crane & Forklift Dock Operator

PDS Tech is hiring a Crane & Forklift Dock Operator for a growing operation in Mechanicsville, VA . This position offers steady first-shift hours and the opportunity to work with a team committed to safety, productivity, and operational excellence.

Pay Rate: $ 20.00/hour

Shift: Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Position Overview

The Crane & Forklift Dock Operator is responsible for safely loading, unloading, and transporting cargo and materials using cranes, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment. This position plays a critical role in supporting dock operations, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring efficient movement of materials throughout the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate cranes, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment

  • Load, unload, transport, and stage cargo and materials throughout the facility

  • Inspect equipment before use and report maintenance or safety concerns

  • Secure loads using straps, chains, and other cargo-securing devices

  • Follow OSHA, company, and site-specific safety procedures

  • Communicate with team members to coordinate safe and efficient material movement

  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas

  • Complete equipment inspections and required operational documentation

  • Assist with general dock, warehouse, and material handling activities as needed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

  • Previous experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment

  • Ability to safely move and handle heavy materials

  • Valid driver's license

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to lift, bend, stand, and work in a physically active environment throughout the shift

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift certification

  • Crane operation experience or certification

  • Dock, warehouse, shipping, receiving, logistics, or material handling experience

  • Experience securing loads and cargo

  • Familiarity with OSHA safety practices and lifting procedures
