What is a dock warehouse?

Dock warehouse jobs involve receiving, storing, and shipping goods in a warehouse environment, typically at the loading docks. Workers in these roles are responsible for loading and unloading trucks, organizing inventory, and ensuring products are properly labeled and stored. They may also operate forklifts or other machinery to move heavy items. These jobs require attention to detail, physical stamina, and adherence to safety procedures to keep operations running smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dock warehouse worker?

To thrive as a Dock Warehouse Worker, you need physical stamina, attention to detail, and familiarity with inventory management, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS), forklifts, pallet jacks, and basic safety certifications like OSHA are typically required. Strong teamwork, communication, and time management help individuals excel in this role. These skills and qualifications are vital to ensure efficient operations, workplace safety, and accurate handling of goods in a fast-paced environment.

What are some common challenges faced in a dock warehouse role, and how can they be managed?

Dock Warehouse roles often involve fast-paced environments where multitasking and attention to detail are crucial. Common challenges include managing tight shipping and receiving schedules, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and efficiently coordinating with truck drivers and other warehouse staff. To manage these challenges, effective communication, staying organized, and proactively addressing any logistical issues are key. Many warehouses provide on-the-job training and encourage collaboration to help new team members acclimate and succeed.

Cylinder Filler, Back Dock & Warehouse Technician

Location: Warner Robins, GA Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday, 7:30 a.m.โ€“5:00 p.m. Position Type: Full-time

Jones Welding & Industrial Supplies is looking for a dependable, safety-minded individual to join our Warner Robins team as a Cylinder Filler, Back Dock & Warehouse Technician.

This is a hands-on position that supports our cylinder-filling operations, back dock, and warehouse. The right person must be willing to stay active, learn multiple areas of the operation, and step in wherever the team needs assistance.

Our Warner Robins location works closely as a team, so we are not simply looking for someone to fill a positionโ€”we are looking for the right person to become part of that team.

Responsibilities

Safely fill compressed-gas cylinders according to company procedures and all applicable safety requirements

Properly connect, disconnect, and operate cylinder-filling equipment after completing required training

Monitor filling equipment, cylinder pressure, and the filling process

Inspect cylinders before and after filling for visible damage, leaks, incorrect markings, expired testing dates, or other safety concerns

Perform required leak checks and verify that filled cylinders are properly labeled, capped, and prepared for storage or delivery

Maintain accurate cylinder-filling records, counts, and required documentation

Receive, sort, and organize incoming and outgoing cylinders

Identify cylinders by gas type, size, ownership, condition, and status

Separate empty, full, damaged, and out-of-service cylinders

Prepare cylinders and customer orders for delivery or pickup

Load, unload, move, and properly secure cylinders and industrial products

Receive incoming shipments and verify products against packing documents

Pick, stage, and prepare customer and delivery orders

Stock products and maintain organized warehouse locations

Assist with shipping, receiving, inventory control, and general warehouse duties

Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, cylinder carts, and other material-handling equipment after proper training

Keep the filling area, back dock, cylinder storage area, and warehouse clean, organized, and free of safety hazards

Follow all company policies and applicable compressed-gas, Hazmat, and workplace safety requirements

Assist coworkers and other departments as needed

Qualifications

Previous cylinder-filling, industrial-gas, warehouse, shipping and receiving, or welding-supply experience is strongly preferred but not required

Welding knowledge or experience is very helpful

Ability and willingness to complete required cylinder-filling and safety training

Ability to learn cylinder types, gas identification, markings, labels, and proper handling procedures

Ability to safely lift, roll, move, and secure heavy gas cylinders and industrial products throughout the workday

Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in changing weather conditions

Strong attention to safety, accuracy, and detail

Dependable attendance and punctuality

Willingness to perform a variety of duties rather than remain in one assigned area

Ability to work independently while also contributing to a close-knit team

Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Forklift experience is helpful, but training may be provided

Ability to pass all required pre-employment screenings

What We Offer

Mondayโ€“Friday schedule

No weekends

Full-time, daytime hours

Fully company-paid health insurance benefits

On-the-job training

Stable work environment

Opportunity to learn multiple areas of the welding and industrial-supply business

Supportive, team-focused workplace

If you are dependable, safety-conscious, willing to work, and looking for a place where you can become part of the team, we encourage you to apply.
