Description:
Derecktor Shipyard is seeking skilled and motivated Operations Technicians to support yard operations across multiple disciplines, including vessel haul and launch, bottom preparation and painting, and general yard maintenance. This team plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality movement, handling, and servicing of vessels within the shipyard.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
These shall include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:
- Work with the Dock Master, Naval Architects, and Marine Engineering team to configure and position lift straps on the Mobile Boat Hoist (MBH) according to established strap plans.
- Assist in the positioning of vessels within the haul-out basin, including guiding, lifting, blocking, and launching operations.
- Coordinate with divers to ensure proper strap placement and vessel alignment.
- Perform pressure washing and preparation of hull surfaces, including cleaning, scraping, sanding, or blasting as required.
- Inspect surfaces for damage and report findings.
- Mix and apply antifouling paints and other protective coatings in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety requirements.
- Utilize brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to achieve consistent, high-quality coating application.
- Operate forklifts, telehandlers, cranes, and other yard equipment to move materials, vessels, and equipment safely.
- Support yard operations by loading/unloading trucks, relocating vessels or heavy equipment, and performing general maintenance as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to prevent accidents and ensure operational efficiency.
- Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain accurate records of materials used, work completed, and any issues encountered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively.
- Detail-oriented and safety-conscious with a commitment to quality work.
- Proficiency in basic rigging, line handling, and equipment operation.
- Familiarity with marine coatings and surface preparation techniques preferred.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, kneeling, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work overtime as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Forklift, telehandler, or crane experience required.
- Rigging and/or line-handling experience required.
- Ability to swim and work safely around water.
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in shipyard operations, marine painting, or industrial environments preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training a plus.
- Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., OSHA) and hazardous materials handling preferred.
