Job description

The DME Technician is responsible for the delivery, setup, and maintenance of durable medical equipment (DME) at patient locations. This role includes educating patients and caregivers on the safe and effective use of equipment, troubleshooting any issues, and maintaining compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. The DME Technician ensures excellent customer service and is committed to supporting patient needs.

General Manager
Responsibilities of the DME Technician include the following:
1. Report any misconduct, suspicious or unethical activities to the Compliance Officer.
2. Represent the company in a professional and courteous manner in all interactions with patients.
3. Transport, deliver, and set up DME items such as wheelchairs, hospital beds, and other medical equipment.
4. Instruct patients and caregivers on proper equipment use, maintenance, and safety practices, ensuring understanding of operation and adherence to health guidelines.
5. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment; troubleshoot technical issues on-site and ensure proper functionality before leaving the premises.
6. Track equipment inventory, maintain records of delivered and returned items, and report any discrepancies or low stock to management.
7. Ensure that all equipment meets safety, health, and regulatory standards, conducting regular inspections and documentation as required by policies and regulations.
8. Complete necessary delivery paperwork, obtain signatures, and document any specific patient requests, service issues, or maintenance performed.
9. Maintain and inspect delivery vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operation, reporting any maintenance needs.
10. Provide compassionate and professional service to patients, answering questions, addressing concerns, and communicating with healthcare providers as needed.
11. Record patient concerns and complaints and forward them to supervisor for action.
12. Help monitor inventory levels to ensure timely deliveries; maintain lot number tracking; comply with recalls.
13. Report equipment hazards and/or product incidents as required in compliance with company policy.
14. Participate in surveys conducted by authorized inspection agencies.
15. Participate in the company’s Performance Improvement program as requested by the Performance Improvement Coordinator.
16. Participate in company committees when requested.
17. Participate in training / education programs provided by the company.
18. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  3. Previous experience in DME, healthcare, or a related field is a plus.
  4. Basic mechanical or technical skills for equipment setup and minor repairs.
  5. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  6. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  7. Computer skills that include proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing and efficient use of the internet and e-mail.
