 Job Summary

The Medical Assistant supports providers in delivering efficient, high-quality patient care by performing clinical and administrative duties throughout the patient visit, from intake through discharge, in a high-volume orthopaedic immediate care environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Room patients; obtain vital signs, chief complaint, and relevant medical history
  • Apply and remove casts, splints, braces, and other orthopaedic immobilization devices per provider instructions
  • Assist providers during in-office procedures (e.g., fracture reductions, joint aspirations or injections)
  • Set up and break down procedure and exam rooms; ensure instruments and supplies are sterilized and stocked
  • Educate patients on cast and splint care, activity restrictions, and home care instructions
  • Fit and adjust durable medical equipment (DME) such as crutches, slings, walkers, and braces
  • Administer medications and injections as directed and within scope of practice
  • Collect specimens and prepare lab requisitions
  • Accurately document patient encounters in the EMR
  • Restock and sanitize exam rooms between patients
  • Communicate discharge instructions and provide patient education materials
  • Assist with referrals, prior authorizations, and care coordination as needed
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control protocols
Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
  • Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA) preferred

Experience

  • 1+ years of experience in orthopaedics, casting, or a related clinical setting.
  • Urgent care or orthopaedic experience a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, casting/splinting techniques, and DME application
  • Strong patient education and communication skills
  • Ability to recognize and escalate clinical complications promptly
  • Comfortable assisting with minor in-office procedures
  • Detail-oriented with strong manual dexterity
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift or assist patients up to 50 lbs
  • Manual dexterity for clinical tasks (e.g., venipuncture, injections)
Work Environment
  • Clinical immediate care setting with exposure to bodily fluids and communicable illness
