Job description

Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides oversight and local operations management of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) supporting Surgical Services, various nursing units, and off-site clinics. Ensures coordinated and timely delivery of reprocessed items to clinical stakeholders within the health care organization. Ensures local facility sterilization and High-Level Disinfection (HLD) functions comply with all regulatory requirements. Manages SPD personnel and serves as liaison between SPD and other departments. Maintains effective interdepartmental relationships, coordinates, and resolves problems, and ensures cooperation with other programs and services. In conjunction with Surgical Services Director, manages the overall SPD budget including determining resource needs, allocation resources and ensuring proper utilization in productivity, efficiency, and cost effectiveness of SPD operations. Develops and maintains a system of internal reviews that ensure service programs operation in compliance with regulatory and accrediting organizations.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. 4-5 years experience minimum in Sterile Processing with increasing responsibility. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
2. Manual dexterity with the ability to assemble and disassemble complex instrumentation
3. Microsoft office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), various applications related to Instrument management (Censis, OneSource).
4. Technical Skills: Due to the highly technical nature, especially related to interpretation of manufacturer's Instructions For Use (IFU), ALL SPD staff must be proficient in spoken and written English.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
1. High School diploma or GED required. Associates degree or Bachelor's degree preferred.
2. License/Certification:
Certification as Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) formally known as International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) is required.
3. Additional three certifications listed below, must be acquired by new employees within two years. Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS), Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), and Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) formally known as International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS), Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER), and Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) through Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD). Note: Certifications must be maintained as a term of employment.

4. Effective January 30, 2022 all new hires: must have the required SPD certifications noted on bullet #2. Incumbent SPD supervisor(s) will obtain the credentials within 24 months of transition to SPD Supervisor role and keep current there after.
