What you'll do:
As the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager - Field Operations, you will serve as the primary safety partner for QXO's field operations, supporting framing, construction, installation, and project-based activities across the region. You will work closely with field leaders, project managers, and operational teams to ensure the effective execution of QXO's EHS programs and standards across 60-70 sites.
This highly visible role requires extensive field presence and travel throughout the region to evaluate jobsite conditions, coach leaders, identify and mitigate risks, investigate incidents, and drive continuous improvement. The EHS Manager will be responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and helping operational teams safely execute work while achieving business objectives.
Field Safety Leadership & Program Execution
  • Serve as the regional EHS leader supporting framing, construction, installation, and other field-based operations.
  • Travel regularly throughout the region to conduct jobsite visits, safety assessments, project audits, and leadership coaching.
  • Ensure consistent implementation and execution of QXO's EHS policies, procedures, and standards across all field operations.
  • Build strong relationships with field supervisors, project managers, and operational leaders to drive ownership of safety performance.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to field leadership on risk management, regulatory compliance, and safety best practices.

Construction Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain expert knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926) and other applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Monitor field operations for compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance on high-risk activities including:
    • Fall protection
    • Framing operations
    • Ladder safety
    • Scaffolding
    • Powered industrial trucks and equipment
    • Electrical safety
    • Lockout/Tagout
    • Excavation and trenching
    • Material handling and rigging
    • Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Support regulatory inspections and audits and assist operational teams in addressing findings and corrective actions.

Hazard Identification and Risk Elimination
  • Conduct field audits, jobsite inspections, and risk assessments to identify unsafe conditions and behaviors.
  • Partner with operations leaders to develop practical solutions that eliminate hazards and reduce risk.
  • Verify corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
  • Review project plans, work activities, and operational changes to identify potential safety impacts before work begins.
  • Promote the use of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task planning, and other proactive risk management tools.

Incident Investigation & Corrective Actions
  • Lead or support investigations involving injuries, vehicle incidents, property damage, near misses, and significant safety events.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and identify corrective and preventive actions.
  • Track corrective actions to completion and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Identify trends and recurring risks across projects and regions and develop mitigation strategies.

Safety Culture, Training, and Engagement
  • Champion a Human and Organizational Performance (HOP)-based safety culture that emphasizes learning, risk recognition, and continuous improvement while supporting operational excellence.
  • Drive the identification, reporting, and investigation of Potential Serious Injury and Fatality (pSIF) events and Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) incidents, facilitating high-impact Learning Teams to uncover systemic causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Deliver training, coaching, and mentoring to field personnel, supervisors, and managers.
  • Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and field engagement activities.
  • Support onboarding and orientation programs for new employees and subcontractors.
  • Recognize positive safety performance and promote employee involvement in safety initiatives.

Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
  • Track and analyze safety metrics, leading indicators, audit results, observations, and incident trends.
  • Prepare and present safety performance reports to operational and executive leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve EHS programs, systems, and processes.
  • Support company-wide safety initiatives and strategic EHS objectives.
  • Assist with workers' compensation case management and return-to-work efforts as needed.

Collaboration and Leadership
  • Partner with Operations, Human Resources, Risk Management, and Project Leadership teams to align safety objectives with business goals.
  • Support due diligence and integration activities for newly acquired operations when applicable.
  • Represent QXO professionally with customers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders.
  • Influence organizational decision-making through visible leadership, field engagement, and data-driven recommendations.

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of progressive EHS experience supporting construction, framing, building products, manufacturing, industrial, or field service operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).
  • Experience conducting field audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments in active construction environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence frontline employees, supervisors, and senior leaders.
  • Excellent communication, training, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned region.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CHST, OHST, CSP, ASP, or equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Travel up to 60-75% throughout the assigned region to support field operations and project sites
    • Company vehicle provided
  • 10% overnight travel (as needed)
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and active construction environments.
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders, access elevated work areas, and navigate active jobsites.
