Job Description:
The Opportunity:
As an Electrical Distribution Project Engineer, you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead and deliver electrical distribution projects (up to 34.5kV) from design through execution
- Serve as a technical expert while guiding and mentoring junior engineers
- Own project success by managing scope, budget, schedule, and quality across multi-discipline teams
- Partner directly with clients to develop solutions, present designs, and drive project outcomes
- Play a key role in shaping project strategy, improving processes, and supporting business growth
Key Responsibilities:
Project Execution:
- Prepare engineering deliverables for multiple projects
- Conduct research to develop equipment and material recommendations
- Manage data and perform complex engineering calculations
- Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines
- Lead larger production teams, coordinate multiple discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for a project
Quality/Continuous Improvement:
- Consistently and independently apply knowledge and comply with quality program requirements
- Ensure compliance through internal QA technical reviews
- Provide guidance and direction to team members
- Support continuous improvement and change management efforts
Client Focus:
- Interface directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors
- Identify key client interests and drivers for projects
- Communicate concerns to project team members and develop solutions
- Provide support for business development activities
- Manage project changes directly with the client under Project Manager supervision
Engineering Production:
- Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables
- Lead large multi-discipline teams to meet project deliverables
- Provide technical leadership for Distribution Line projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing engineering design services for overhead and underground distribution line projects for investor-owned utilities in the United States
- Experience in design of overhead and underground distribution projects (4kV-34.5kV)
- Strong communication skills and interest in client relationship development
- Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles, NESC and NEC standards
- Working knowledge of interdisciplinary project coordination: procurement, subcontract administration, permitting, real estate/land acquisition, and construction support
- Working knowledge of the proposal process and developing engineering estimates
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program
- Minimum 5 years of related work experience
- Active P.E. license required
- Must serve as single disciplinary lead for electrical distribution design
- Experience with utility clients required
- Full project life cycle experience as a Project Engineer required
- Must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding (background check, drug screen, MVR search)
