Job Title: Plant Selector
Department: Warehouse
FLSA: Non-Exemp
General Function
This position will work handling all aspects of product flow for plant items. This includes purchasing, checking in, selecting orders from pick tickets, tagging and shipping, and receiving paperwork. Specific scheduling for this position will be discussed during the interview process and will adjust based on the fluctuation of business and holidays.
Reporting Relations
Accountable and Reports to: General Manager & Warehouse Manager
Positions that Report to you: None
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in sales of plant products.
  • Select plant orders from pick tickets and prepare orders for shipment.
  • Handle packaging materials and understands proper care and handling for plant products.
  • Check in plant shipments.
  • Responsible for entering and receiving product purchase orders in accounting system.
  • Approve category invoices for payment and reconciles/researches vendor billing issues.
  • Perform general quality control on plant products.
  • Assist with inventory counts on plant product on a weekly basis.
  • Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Keeps the floral work area clean and tidy.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as necessary.
  • Report to work when scheduled and on time; and weekends as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:
  • Must be customer service driven and able to communicate clear and effectively.
  • Must have basic working knowledge of computer use, to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook e-mail and calendars. Able to operate menu driven computer programs with mouse, 10 key keypad, and alpha numeric keyboard.
  • Ability to read and obey MSDS information on products.
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers.
  • Must have the ability to carry out detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to file, post, sort, and organize materials, paperwork and software used.

Education and Experience:
High School or equivalent; an understanding of customer service, knowledge of plant and lawn and garden products is required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to perform light to moderate physical work; exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, talking, climbing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to perform work duties in a refrigerated environment.

Working Conditions:
The duties of this position are performed in a warehouse and refrigerated setting. There is frequent exposure to noise and continual exposure to temperature changes.
Equipment Used to Perform Job:
Computer with SBT & Acumatica software, knife, pallet jack, four-wheeled carts, and strapper. A digital camera, copier, and fax may also be required.
