Position Overview

This position combines hands-on electrical engineering with applications and systems engineering. The successful candidate will help develop electrical architectures, integrate components, test prototypes, analyze customer power requirements, configure systems, and support pilot deployments.

The engineer will work across electrical, mechanical, controls, software, manufacturing, business-development, supplier, and field teams.


Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical architectures for fuel-cell, battery-buffered, and distributed power-generation systems.
  • Design and review AC and DC power distribution, protection, grounding, controls, sensing, communication, and safety circuits.
  • Prepare electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, equipment specifications, and bills of materials.
  • Select and integrate inverters, DC/DC converters, batteries, relays, contactors, protection devices, sensors, controllers, meters, power supplies, and communication hardware.
  • Perform electrical calculations involving power flow, conductor sizing, voltage drop, fault protection, grounding, energy capacity, load balancing, and single-phase and three-phase systems.
  • Analyze customer loads, operating profiles, redundancy requirements, site conditions, utility service, and backup duration to develop appropriate system configurations.
  • Support prototype assembly, electrical integration, laboratory testing, verification, validation, and design improvements.
  • Develop test plans and perform functional, performance, reliability, and system-level testing.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls, communications, power-conversion, and system-integration issues using structured root-cause analysis.
  • Support field installation, system commissioning, pilot deployments, demonstrations, and customer-site troubleshooting.
  • Translate customer and market requirements into clear technical specifications and product requirements.
  • Provide technical support for site evaluations, customer discussions, proposals, system presentations, and deployment planning.
  • Coordinate with component manufacturers and suppliers regarding specifications, performance, testing, quality, and product availability.
  • Prepare engineering specifications, design documentation, test reports, application notes, operating procedures, and commissioning records.
  • Support compliance with applicable electrical codes, utility requirements, safety standards, and product-certification requirements.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Three or more years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, power systems, power electronics, applications engineering, distributed energy, industrial controls, or related product development.
  • Strong knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems, circuit protection, grounding, electrical safety, and single-phase and three-phase power.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical integration, testing, troubleshooting, and laboratory equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power analyzers.
  • Familiarity with inverters, converters, batteries, relays, contactors, sensors, protection devices, and control systems.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into practical, reliable, and cost-effective system designs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work primarily on-site and travel occasionally for testing, supplier visits, or deployments.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fuel cells, hydrogen systems, battery storage, microgrids, solar PV, backup power, or distributed generation.
  • Knowledge of power electronics, embedded controls, PLCs, data acquisition, or industrial communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, Altium, ETAP, MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, or similar engineering tools.
  • Experience with prototype development, design verification, pilot production, commissioning, or field deployment.
  • Knowledge of NEC, UL, IEC, IEEE, utility-interconnection, or product-certification requirements.
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, or data-center power systems.
  • EIT, PE, or another relevant technical certification.
