Job Description

We are seeking an HVAC Control Systems Technician (BAS Technician) to join our federal team supporting the National Defense University location in Washington D.C.

Johnson Controls Federal Systems (JCFS) is a specialized team serving as a trusted partner to the federal government. We help modernize U.S. military installations, Department of Defense and other federal agency facilities to be smarter, more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and secure.
Pay range: $36.00 - $45.00 per hour. Negotiable based on experience.

Shift: 7:30am – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday.
Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment
Vacation: 3 weeks of paid vacation, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays, and 10 standard holidays per calendar year (6.5 weeks in total)

As a Control Systems Operator/Technician, you will:

  • Continuously monitors the Facility Control Systems, primarily using Siemens BAS system to ensure proper operation of all systems and equipment
  • Maintain and monitor the performance of the Facility Control Systems. This includes monitoring and managing equipment and system alarms utilizing graphical user interfaces and control system programs
  • Validates equipment and system alarms, and creates work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems 
  • Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, commissioning, point-to-point checkouts, and/or replacement of HVAC controls systems & equipment; most work will involve Siemens DDC controls with some Johnson Controls Metasys® building automation system and controls
  • Test and perform modifications to systems software when needed
  • May perform minor maintenance and service on HVAC equipment to include, but not limited to, filter changes, greasing, and other preventative maintenance duties
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Operational Experience working with Siemens Apogee, Siemens Desigo, Tridium Niagara, Metasys, or other comparable Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Experience commissioning, troubleshooting or installing DDC systems
  • Knowledge and competency of HVAC principles
  • Knowledge and proficiency using a computer
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Self-starter with ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Basic knowledge of safety equipment, requirements for use, and HVAC systems safety procedures and protocols
  • The ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances and/or badges as required to perform site duties. (This involves a background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and proficiency working with Siemens Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for creating work orders
  • HVAC mechanical maintenance and service experience.
  • Programming and/or troubleshooting various brands of HVAC controls products is highly desired (Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, Delta, Distech, Carrier, ALC, Andover) 
  • Experience with BAS communication protocols including at least one of the following:  BACnet MSTP, BACnet IP, N2, P1, Modbus, and/or LON
  • BAS systems experience

Preferred Education:

  • HVAC Technical School training and/or certifications
  • Siemens Apogee or Siemens Desigo certifications
