Job description

Helms Career Education is an arm of Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA that provides educational and training programs to those seeking "a hand-up" in the career world. The goal, as with all Goodwill programs, is to assist individuals with the skills and resources required to garner and retain competitive employment.
General Summary: Responsible for the day-to-day activities associated with the Automotive Technician training program. Special functions may include recommending class scheduling, providing information for budget planning, advisement, student recruitment, and registration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee departments shared labs, tools and equipment
  • Provides instruction in automotive technology for all assigned students
  • Demonstrates the use of appropriate testing and grading procedures, including proper maintenance of grade books and any other appropriate record-keeping requirements
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current procedures in automotive technology
  • Develops and follows approved curriculum standards and course syllabi
  • Monitors student use of supplies, materials, and equipment
  • Maintains classrooms and laboratories in accordance with approved classroom and lab management plans
  • Participate in marketing of courses to prospective students
  • Assist with course/program evaluation and continuous improvement and resolve quiz disputes when necessary
  • Record attendance in learning management system
  • Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process
  • Review syllabus and learning outcomes the first night of class
  • Provide sufficient time for students to complete course evaluations
  • Do not release class early
  • Do not leave class unattended
  • Respond to student inquiries
  • Keep Program Manager informed of any curriculum or student code of conduct issues
  • Be familiar with all emergency procedures posted in the classroom
  • Maintain acceptable program quality and satisfaction scores

Education and Experience:
  • Associates Degree or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician Certification (A1-A8 plus L1) required.
  • Teaching or training experience required.
  • Comfortable with teaching in classroom and on a distance learning platform
  • Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and some weekend assignments
  • Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e Microsoft Office suite)
