Do you need experience to work as a dispatcher with no experience?

Many entry-level dispatcher positions do not require prior experience, as training is often provided on the job. Employers typically look for strong communication skills, organization, and the ability to handle stressful situations, making it possible to start without previous dispatching experience.

How hard is it to get hired as a dispatcher with no experience?

Getting hired as a dispatcher with no experience can be challenging but is possible, especially if you demonstrate strong communication skills, organization, and a willingness to learn. Employers often provide on-the-job training, and having a valid driver's license or familiarity with dispatch software can improve your chances. Entry-level positions may require passing background checks and having a high school diploma or equivalent.

How to start a dispatcher with no experience?

To start as a dispatcher with no experience, focus on developing strong organizational and communication skills, and consider obtaining relevant certifications such as a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or logistics training. Entry-level positions often require basic computer skills and the ability to coordinate schedules, with on-the-job training provided by employers. Gaining familiarity with transportation management software can also improve your prospects.

What disqualifies you from being a dispatcher with no experience?

For a dispatcher with no experience, disqualifications often include a lack of basic communication skills, inability to handle stressful situations, or failure to meet minimum age or education requirements. Job description

Our Purpose
We strive to help each patient reach their highest level of medical independence by delivering equipment and services seamlessly, with exceptional care.
Role Summary
As a Dispatcher, you'll keep daily distribution operations running smoothly by coordinating routes and aligning resources to meet patient service needs. You will manage delivery, pickup, exchange, and service stops through POD; verify order accuracy; and assign work to the appropriate location, route, driver, or Field Service Technician based on priority, capacity, and staffing. You'll track progress throughout the day, rebalance workloads, and resolve issues quickly-escalating operational concerns when needed. Time-sensitive requests (hospital discharges, hospice, STAT orders, and patient safety needs) are prioritized according to procedure.
Required qualifications/skills:
- At least 21 years old and federally eligible to operate commercial vehicles in interstate commerce
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong customer service, communication, and attention to detail
- Dispatch/logistics/transportation or DME/HME/healthcare experience preferred
- Comfortable learning software systems; able to work independently and make timely decisions
Apply today to help ensure patients receive dependable, on-time service.
Daily Dispatch Flow
You'll begin by opening POD and validating the day's route board-overnight updates, high-priority requests, and any capacity constraints. From there, you'll sequence stops, confirm details, and keep drivers and technicians aligned on timing and expectations. Throughout the shift, you'll monitor progress in real time, document changes, and reassign work as conditions change (traffic, add-ons, equipment issues, or patient availability). When hospital discharges, hospice needs, STAT orders, or safety concerns arise, you'll triage quickly and escalate as needed to keep service on track. You'll finish by reconciling completed stops, capturing exceptions, and preparing a clear handoff for the next day.
Your Benefits
We offer Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage, plus Life Insurance. You'll also have access to a 401(k), Paid Time Off, and a Competitive Salary.
