Job description

Overview

The Ready Mix Concrete Dispatch Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing daily dispatch operations across multiple ready-mix plants to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time delivery of concrete to customers. This role supervises dispatchers and/or customer service representatives, optimizes fleet utilization, drives service excellence, and ensures alignment between Operations, Sales, Quality Control, and Plant teams.

The Dispatch Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in balancing customer expectations, plant production capabilities, driver availability, and logistical constraints while driving key performance indicators (KPIs) such as On-Time Delivery (OTD), CY/DH, lost loads, and service levels.

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Supervise and support daily dispatch operations across assigned plants/regions.
  • Ensure optimal scheduling and routing of drivers to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor real-time order fulfillment and adjust dispatch plans as needed.
  • Oversee start-of-day planning and end-of-day reconciliation processes.
  • Manage driver wash-out decisions in coordination with system recommendations and operational needs.
  • Ensure effective communication of service alerts, plant issues, weather impacts, and jobsite delays.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Directly supervise dispatchers and/or customer service representatives.
  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching sessions, and ongoing development conversations.
  • Lead daily huddles focused on safety, service levels, and performance metrics.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and collaboration.

Customer Service Excellence

  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through proactive communication.
  • Support resolution of escalated service issues.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Operations to manage high-priority placements and large pours.
  • Monitor call center performance metrics including service level, response times, and abandoned calls.
  • Reinforce customer-focused behaviors across the team.

Performance Management & KPIs

  • Monitor and analyze key operational metrics, including:
    • On-Time Delivery (OTD)
    • Cubic Yards per Driver Hour (CY/DH)
    • Lost Loads
    • Truck Turn Time
    • Driver Productivity
    • Call Center Service Levels
  • Identify trends and implement process improvements.
  • Prepare reports and dashboards for leadership review.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and digital optimization tools.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Partner closely with:
    • Plant Managers
    • Operations Managers
    • Sales Managers
    • Quality Control
    • Fleet Maintenance
  • Participate in planning meetings for large placements.
  • Support implementation of technology platforms (dispatch systems, telematics, optimization tools).
  • Align dispatch decisions with company safety, financial, and operational goals.

 Safety & Compliance

  • Reinforce safety-first culture in all dispatch decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, driver hours, and company policies.
  • Support incident review and root cause analysis when applicable
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in ready-mix concrete dispatch or logistics.
  • 1-3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience managing multi-plant or high-volume dispatch operations strongly preferred.
