Campus Safety Dispatcher I
Job Description
The Campus Safety Dispatcher is a full-time position located on the Old Charlotte Highway Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Campus Safety, the Campus Safety Dispatcher I perform a variety of safety communications and dispatching. The position also requires an understanding of emergency procedures, and ability to remain calm in high stress situations. Other duties include routine administrative duties, including receiving calls for police or security services and assessing and relaying emergency information to officers on campus. The dispatcher creates records of calls for service, monitors and responds to alarm calls and performs tasks involving creating and dispatching Informacast Mass Notification alerts, and the lockdown of campus buildings.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Demonstrate ambassador-style courtesy and service to all in person or by phone extending sensitivity and confidentiality of information in compliance of HIPPA, FERPA or any other applicable laws or regulations
  • Monitor and dispatch all police and fire activations
  • Communicate with responding teams and provide real-time support
  • Monitor surveillance cameras for unusual activity and threats
  • Identify potential security incidents or suspicious behavior
  • Initiate lockdown of all campus facilities
  • Recognize appropriate steps to recruit assistance of Assistant Director of Campus Safety when situations appear an alternative solution is unattainable
  • Possess a calmness in emergency situations for reporting emergencies to police, fire, EMS, and notifying appropriate college personnel
  • Answer incoming calls efficiently with a pleasant, friendly telephone voice and helpful attitude for determining the caller's needs
  • Utilize all emergency systems for activating mass notifications to all employees and students
  • Comprehend our SPCC Emergency Operations Response Plan and be proficient and capable of utilizing emergency notification systems, INFORMACAST, and any additional technology or software
  • Submit and follow-up help-desk requests, maintenance work orders, and SNOW requisitions as directed by the Assistant Director of Campus Safety
  • Complete Access Requests using our Genetec software
  • Audit badge activity logs for anomalies
  • Document alarms, dispatches, and system events in the SOC Log
  • Capable of adjusting to scheduling changes, needs, or flex-timing as warranted to fulfill the position
  • Accept that other duties and responsibilities may be assigned, added, or taken away to assist the Assistant Director of Campus Safety or the Director of Campus Safety in completing their duties and responsibilities

Required Qualifications
  • 5 years of experience involving substantial public contact
  • Prior experience in a dispatch environment
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations
  • Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks
  • Previous experience learning and utilizing new software technology
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge or experience in the protective services environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual
  • Associate's degree
  • Knowledge of academic practices and procedures in a higher education environment
  • 3-5 years of experience in dispatch
  • IT experience
