Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, located in North Portland, is a cornerstone of care in our region. As a local and regional leader in treating serious illness and injury, Emanuel offers 24/7 expertise in trauma, heart care, burn treatment, stroke, brain surgery, complex wounds, and more. It’s a critical hub for the health of our community and the entire Northwest.


  • Perform a variety of service-related activities supporting the Patient Transportation Program, including upkeep and maintenance of unit supplies, patient lifts, and other patient care tasks.

  • Transport patients to ancillary departments as needed.

  • Assist with patient care, including lifting/turning patients, orienting patients to room controls, preparing rooms for new admits, and transporting patient belongings.

  • Document patient transport details in medical charts, including date, time, destination, mode of transportation, and signature.

  • Confirm with RN that the patient is stable for transport before proceeding.

  • Understand and respond appropriately to age-related patient needs.

  • Offer assistance to patients, families, and visitors while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.

  • Monitor equipment inventory, perform preventative maintenance, and complete work order forms for broken equipment (excluding biomedical devices).

  • Conduct routine inspections of products, equipment, and sanitation standards to ensure quality.

  • Maintain records of events and information related to Transportation Services.

  • Use communication equipment and campus mapping resources to process and coordinate transportation requests.

  • Collaborate with all hospital departments and units to provide coordinated and effective service.

  • Organize and prioritize daily workload, managing time to maximize efficiency.

  • May cover transportation dispatcher duties during breaks, lunch, and APL days.

Education:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent preferred. 

Skills: 

  • Medical terminology helpful but not required.
  • Reading and writing skills at 10th grade level. 
  • Basic math skills and good verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to accept and follow direction. 
  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly and logically. 
  • Ability to cope with the physical and mental demands of a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to calmly deal with people in emergent situations. 
  • Ability to work well in a fast paced, multiple activity environment.
