Job description

Position Summary

Under the oversight of the Director, Electrical Technical Operations, this role provides senior leadership focus on electrical technical operations and entertainment technical Operations.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the operations and planning for all electrical systems, such as:
  • Power generation plant
  • Main Switchboards
  • High/Low Voltage systems
  • Propulsion plant, including azipods
  • Navigation Systems
  • Automation systems
  • UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) systems
  • Shipboard Network
  • Radio, Telecoms and Satcoms
  • Serve as a resource for dry dock, wet dock and other planned maintenance efforts and lead projects as appropriate.
  • Oversee Marine and Technical Machinery automation and control systems including cyber security and implementation of applicable rules and standards.
  • Responsible for the repairs and maintenance of all ships’ electrical systems and Entertainment Technical Systems. In coordination with the Executive Director Technical Operations & Director, Electrical Technical Operations to verify and coordinate (well within the time frame) from flag state, class association, or other government bodies any change to the construction or equipment onboard.
  • Manage the maintenance of Disney Cruise Line Electrical technical standards and operating procedures and manage the oversight of proper documentation in company-approved maintenance systems.
  • Uphold safety management responsibilities in the Safety Management System (SMS) and assist in implementation of SMS policies and procedures relative to areas of responsibilities.
  • Verify operating procedures pertaining to operating practices. See that applicable regulations, class, and company policy and complied with.
  • Serve as a liaison with USCG, where applicable.
  • Oversee all Show Quality Standards (SQS) for electrical system and entertainment technical related issues.
  • Support ships’ Chief Electrical Engineers on electrical maintenance.
  • Oversee inspection and advisement of passenger comfort, guest services, entertainment and communication systems.
  • Give recommendations to the fleet training manager regarding education and training of ship electrical engineers.
  • Verify the implementation of solutions in the Marine Electrical area of responsibility.
  • Function as a senior leader representing electrical operations in the Disney Cruise Line Safety Committee.
  • SMS responsibility for upholding the general safety management responsibilities specified in SMS within areas under their control.
Required Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in cruise industry environments, with responsibility for electrical engineering systems, vessel operations, maintenance, and technical project execution
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams, contractors, and vendor partners while overseeing complex electrical engineering programs, maintenance initiatives, dry docks, refits, refurbishments, and capital projects
  • Experience overseeing the operation, maintenance, repair, and lifecycle management of complex electrical systems, including:
    • Power generation and distribution
    • High and low voltage systems
    • Main switchboards
    • Electric propulsion systems (including Azipods or equivalent)
    • Automation and machinery control systems
    • UPS systems
    • Shipboard networks and communications infrastructure 
  • Experience managing dry dock, wet dock, refit, refurbishment, or major capital project execution programs.
  • Experience developing, managing, and reporting on engineering project budgets and forecasts.
  • Demonstrated experience ensuring compliance with regulatory, safety, environmental, and classification society requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of marine electrical engineering principles, electrical distribution systems, automation systems, and control systems.
  • Working knowledge of international maritime regulations, classification standards, and industry requirements governing marine electrical and technical operations
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices and safe use of electricity in hazardous or potentially explosive environments.
  • Strong project, financial, and vendor management skills with the ability to balance operational priorities across multiple complex initiatives
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across shipboard and shoreside leadership teams.
Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related engineering discipline.
  • Professional maritime certification such as IMO STCW Electro-Technical Officer (ETO), Electro-Technical Engineer (ETE), Chief Electrician, or equivalent marine electrical qualification may be considered in lieu of some educational requirements

The hiring range for this position in Celebration, FL is $145,900.00-$195,600.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
