Job description

Directs, coordinates and monitors the Emergency Response program for Area Command; analyzes facility/ program risks and responds to crisis and disaster management programs; partners with leadership team to ensure that incidents/problems are identified and considered in the development of a crisis response plan; supports Area Command response efforts; coordinates resources, service delivery, and communication; provides a total solution to effectively manage the entire crisis lifecycle, from preparation and planning, through education and training, to rapid crisis response and situation recovery.

  • Emergency Disaster Services Manager Responsibilities (40%)
  • Emergency Preparedness Plan Development and Management Responsibilities (20%)

  • Volunteer Coordination Responsibilities (10%)

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively; Spanish not required, but preferred.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze and compute numbers and to perform routine and mathematical computations
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during state of crisis.
  • Ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle, including a canteen truck, or other vehicle designated.
  • Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
  • Duties are usually performed by a combination of sitting, standing, walking, and/or driving a vehicle. Duties may also require ability to lead and participate in Emergency Services training and in natural disaster preparation and cleanup.
  • Moderate amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light or moderately heavy objects (more than 25 lbs.).

Working Conditions:
  • Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors where there may be physical discomforts associated with driving in heavy traffic and changes in weather.
  • Work may require exposure to various types of hazards to include, natural hazards (i.e. forest or range fires, floods, hurricane, tornadoes, lightning, show or ice storms and droughts, technology hazards such as major transportation accidents, oil spills, industrial fires and explosions, fixed nuclear accidents or hazardous materials spill; and man-made hazards such as wars, terrorist attacks, civil unrest, strikes or outages of energy-producing resources).

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Crisis and Disaster Management, Emergency Management, Business Administration, or a related field,

AND
  • Three to five years' experience in crisis/disaster or emergency services management,

OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Certifications:
  • Valid State Driver's License
  • Emergency Management Certificate (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)
  • Incident Command Certificate (strongly preferred)
  • Trainer in Crisis Management (strongly preferred)
