Job description

About the Position Performs intermediate semi-skilled work operating solid waste collection and transport equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor. Job Duties Operates transfer truck and heavy construction equipment to transport recyclable materials, refuse and other materials to landfill, collection sites or other disposal locations.

Performs large item removal/relocation as necessary. Assists with storm and natural disaster cleanup. Performs other assigned duties.

Position Qualifications General knowledge of the operation and servicing of automotive equipment. General knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation. General knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards of work.

Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions. Ability to detect signs of mechanical failure of the automotive and packing equipment. Ability to read and write.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and the general public Education, Experience and Supplemental Information High school diploma or equivalent. One to three (1-3) years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Valid North Carolina driver's license.

Successful completion of In-House CDL Certification required within 6 months of hire.
