The Child Life Specialist I assesses the emotional, developmental, educational, and diversionary needs of hospitalized children and coordinates therapeutic interventions to address the medical, procedural, surgical, and diagnostic experiences of patients and families. Plans and implements programs and services to meet the needs identified for assigned clinical population and the child life department, which may include supporting children affected by the hospitalization of an adult. Promotes and practices the delivery of high-quality family centered care and services for patients and families. Participates in the education of the multidisciplinary team on child life strategies for providing optimal care for pediatric patients and their families. Arranges visits with schools and other communication organizations to provide education about a patient's disease, treatment plan and/or limitations. Qualifications
  • Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Bachelor's Degree in Child Development or related field. Graduate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Completion of Child Life Internship, required.
  • Licensure/Certification: Certified Child Life Specialist or will have completed child life cert. within 1 yr of hire or within 2 examination cycles, required.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements (required): Assesses the emotional, developmental, educational, and diversionary needs of hospitalized children and coordinates therapeutic interventions to address the medical, procedural, surgical, and diagnostic experiences of patients and families.
