Parks & Recreation/ Municipal Golf Course
Temporary /Seasonal
PARK & FACILITY MAINTENANCE I
This classification is the entry level of the park & facility maintenance series working under immediate supervision.
Duties:• Performs manual labor in the care & maintenance of Salina Municipal Golf Course.
• Performs planting & maintenance of trees in golf course including removing trees, shrubs, & stumps.
• Maintains turf & grounds on fairways & greens including seeding, watering, top dressing, planting flowers, weed removal, painting, fence repair, dirt work & related duties.
• Assists in the installation & maintenance of irrigation systems.
• Recognizes plant diseases & takes appropriate action to counteract.
• May perform some concrete work.
• Performs janitorial duties in & around the golf course.
• Works on special projects & assignments.
• Administers basic first aid, if needed.
• Responds in emergency situations within scope of training.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education: • Eighth grade graduate.
• CPR & First Aid certifications desired.
Experience:• Lawn maintenance or golf course work preferred.
• Previous experience with non-powered hand tools used to maintain grounds at the golf course.
Equipment:• Non-powered hand tools, hammers, wrenches, screw drivers, shovels, rakes, blowers & hand held non-powered clippers & edgers, as assigned.
Desired Qualifications:• Must be able to follow instructions.
• Must be a self-starter & be able to work productively.
• Must have excellent problem solving skills & demonstrate good judgement when completing job duties.
• Maintains a high standard of customer service.
• Maintains positive & cooperative working relationships.
• Works indoors/outdoors in changing environmental conditions; must be able to work in temperatures which often exceeds 90 degrees.
• Communicates well with patrons of various ages from diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrates kindness to patrons & presents professional attitude at all times.
• Must be able to communicate verbally & in writing.
Requirements:• Sixteen (16) year olds will work in a non-driving capacity.
• Seventeen (17) year olds must possess a valid driver's license to operate utility vehicles & golf carts on city property & non-public access passageways.
• Performs all job tasks according to rules & guidelines of Salina Parks & Recreations' safety program & weather alert procedures.
• Must have reliable transportation to-and-from work.
• Must be available to work shifts.
• Must attend required trainings & meetings.
• Required to review posted event calendars.
• Must follow scheduling protocols & be able to obtain weekly work schedule.
• Must follow time & attendance guidelines must adhere to payroll requirements.
• Must respond in a timely manner to all forms of communication regarding City of Salina employment by way of phone calls, emails, texts, etc.

PARK & FACILITY MAINTENANCE II This classification is mid-level of the park & facility maintenance series working under general supervision.
Duties:• Responsible to fulfill the duties of Park & Facility Maintenance I staff, as needed.
• Supervises the Park & Facility Maintenance I staff in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent.
• Diagnose needs for chemical applications.
• Applies fertilizers & pesticides as required & determines ratio based on environmental conditions.
• Diagnose conditions for disease, irrigation, mowing.
• Performs minor electrical & plumbing work.
• Services & performs minor repairs to equipment.
• Performs manual labor in the care, minor construction & maintenance of Salina Municipal Golf Course.

• Drives tractors, vehicles, utility vehicles, movers, back hoes, chippers, dump trucks, man-lifts, medium sized loaders, post hole digger, precision mowers, rototiller, seeders & top dressers, tractors & attachments.
Hand Tools:
• Chain saws, blowers, power tools, hedge trimmers, sprayers, edgers

Oversees daily operations including supervision of any seasonal maintenance crews who have been assigned to the site.
• Responsible to fulfill the duties of Park & Facility Maintenance I & II staff, as needed.

• Must be able to work weekends and/or holidays & special events.
